How are companies at the cutting edge of AI thinking about security? Last week, our CISO James Nettesheim joined Reuters and Lucas Kello to talk about the steps we’re taking to build safety into our AI systems and the security risks that lie ahead as the technology evolves.
At Momentum AI San Jose last week, Lucas Kello, Director of the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research at the University of Oxford and James Nettesheim, CISO at Block, delivered a powerful keynote on how AI agents are transforming enterprise operations and the urgent security challenges that follow. 🪿 Block’s AI agent, Goose, is now used by 60% of employees—marking a shift from traditional coding to natural language programming. This isn’t just evolution; it’s a redefinition of software development. 🧠 James traced AI’s journey from Turing to today’s deep learning models, highlighting the growing need for explainability, especially under GDPR and the EU AI Act. 🔐 On the security front, he warned of threats from prompt injection, deepfakes, and AI-powered exploits, calling for secure-by-design systems like Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. 👉 Is your organisation ready for the age of autonomous AI? 📍If you're looking to continue the conversation on securing your AI posture, join us at Momentum AI London, September 29–30. register here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eXfuyfx6 #AI #Cybersecurity #Innovation

Block reposted this
Block officially joins the S&P 500 today. This is a signal that the work we've been doing for years, sometimes fast and sometimes complex, is building something durable. From a CFO lens, index inclusion matters. It broadens our shareholder base and signals long-term strength and credibility to the market. It also means Block is now part of the investment portfolios of more people saving for retirement, drawing a pension, or planning for the long term. I'm proud of how far we've come and focused on what comes next. Congrats to the team - let’s keep going. And thanks to Emily Mason at Bloomberg for the look across our business. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gBsn3hHC

To every employee at Block, it shows what we've built together is working, and working at scale. When we stay focused on our purpose of economic empowerment, good things happen. Let’s keep building. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/ee7YyNtD

The world is a better place when online is a safer place. Disrupting online harm requires cross-platform collaboration 🤝 Initial results are in from Tech Coalition's Project Lantern Financial Sector pilot to improve child safety. Learn more ⏬
We are excited to share that the Lantern financial sector pilot has successfully concluded. Launched last summer, the pilot brought together six companies across tech and finance, resulting in nearly 2,000 signals shared, triggering over 100 investigations by financial institutions into financially motivated child sexual exploitation and abuse. The pilot validated the value of cross-sector collaboration to build a safer digital and financial ecosystem. Based on strong results and board participant support, the Tech Coalition will now begin formally integrating eligible U.S.-based financial institutions into Lantern. Thank you to the companies that helped test this pilot – MEGA The Privacy Company, Meta, Snap Inc., Cash App, PayPal, and Western Union – and to every company participating in Lantern. Their collaboration continues to demonstrate what’s possible when industry comes together to tackle complex, cross-platform harm. Find the results: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/d7s-H5nP

🇬🇧 When sellers and shoppers have more choice they have more opportunities to grow. Competition drives innovation, and innovation creates access. That's not just good policy, it's good for businesses. This is how we build an economy that works for everyone. ⬇️ Thoughts from Samina Hussain-Letch on the UK Chancellor's speech and recommitment to innovation in financial services. Word travels fast when you go local. Behind every all star is community ☕
Dropped into the Square SF Corner Store yesterday + got behind the counter with Jimmy Butler to ring up a cappuccino. Was great spending time with Jimmy and his team at BIGFACE BRAND. The space was filled with local sellers, first-time founders, and community leaders all connecting over coffee and conversation. The Corner Store has become exactly what we hoped it would be: a place to connect with our sellers, celebrate entrepreneurship, and bring Block’s mission of economic empowerment to life in a real way. Grateful to everyone who helped bring it all together. Learn more here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gpW-xT43

🌟 We came back from Berlin more energized than ever after WeAreDevelopers World Congress 2025! Thank you to the thousands of engineers who stopped by the Block booth to explore goose, our open source AI agent, firsthand. Watching live vibe coding was a reminder of how much creativity rests in the hands of the developer community. Highlights from the stage: - Angie Jones explained how the rise of Model Context Protocol revives the playful, composable spirit of the early web “mash-up” era of APIs. She also teased a grant program for goose (more details to come! Sign up here for updates: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eWT2zb9z). She also joined Ignacio Riesgo and Emilio Salvador (GitLab) for a DevRel deep dive on turning community momentum into measurable business impact. - Jackie Brosamer was joined by Himanshu Vasishth, Mindaugas Mozūras, and Lukas Pfeiffer to discuss the genuine productivity gains engineering teams are already seeing from AI tooling, beyond the noise and hype. - Bradley Axen shared insights on agentic design patterns and the emerging open protocols that allow agents to speak a common language. Berlin reminded us that openness wins. Whether it is a pull request, a docs suggestion, or an issue raised, goose keeps improving as the community keeps pushing it forward. 🧡 🪿 Session recordings will be available soon. Until then, keep the feedback coming. We are building this, together. #WeAreDevelopers #OpenSource #AI
