It's Time to Build.

About us

Founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (known as "a16z") is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic: We invest in seed to late-stage technology companies, across the consumer, enterprise, bio/healthcare, crypto, fintech and games spaces. a16z is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial company building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. The firm is led by general partners, many of whom are former founders/operators, CEOs, or CTOs of successful technology companies, and who have domain expertise ranging from biology to crypto to distributed systems to security to marketplaces to financial services. We aim to connect entrepreneurs, investors, executives, engineers, academics, industry experts, and others in the technology ecosystem. We have built a network of experts including technical and executive talent; top media and marketing resources; Fortune 500/Global 2000 companies; as well as other technology decision makers, influencers, and key opinion leaders. a16z uses this network as part of our commitment to help our portfolio companies grow their business, so our operating teams provide entrepreneurs with access to expertise and insights across the entire spectrum of company building. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pa16z.com/portfolio/ https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pa16z.com/podcasts/ http://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pa16z.com/subscribe/ Posts should not be considered investment advice or an advertisement for investment services. Today, we're thrilled to announce our $125M Series C funding round at a $1.5B valuation, led by Meritech Capital, marking our third successful raise in just 12 months! fal’s Generative Media Cloud now powers tens of thousands of applications, supporting over two million developers and more than 300 enterprise customers. From initial prototypes to fully scaled production, we've become the essential infrastructure enabling some of the most innovative and creative work in the industry. Over the past year alone, we've experienced extraordinary growth—averaging 40% month-over-month, consistently exceeding our own ambitious projections. Each month, hundreds of thousands of new developers and thousands of fresh applications join our platform, unlocking entirely new use cases previously thought impossible. With this latest round of funding, we're significantly scaling our engineering, support, sales, and marketing teams to keep pace with the accelerating demand and enthusiasm from our community. Our vision has always been clear: build a generative media platform that effortlessly creates dynamic, real-time content across video, audio, image, and 3D. Thanks to our incredible team, dedicated partners, and visionary customers, that's precisely what fal delivers today—empowering creativity at unprecedented scale. Alongside Arsham Memarzadeh from Meritech Capital we’d love to thank all our existing and new investors joining this round: Sameer Dholakia and Talia Goldberg from Bessemer Venture Partners, Jennifer Li from Andreessen Horowitz, Steve Jang from Kindred Ventures, Glenn Solomon and Dan Cahana from Notable Capital, Emily Zhao from Salesforce Ventures, Jane Lee from Shopify Ventures, Nick Landolfi from Unusual Ventures, Todd Jackson from First Round Capital and Anne Dwane from Village Global.

Congratulations to Dylan Field, Praveer Melwani and the Figma team on going public. When we originally invested, we said we were entering the decade of design. Amazing how much that has happened, and more. Thanks for letting us at Andreessen Horowitz be part of the journey. Here’s the investment thesis Peter Levine wrote on Figma 5 years ago, on “the decade of design”. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/ggBguuSR

  • Chris Hayes says the democratization of fame has made social attention constant and ambient. Social media turned everyday life into performance in public: a kind of “digital panopticon” where everyone watches everyone. The result is a quiet retreat. Group chats offer the last escape from being seen.

  • We’re proud to lead the seed round in North Pole Security. One in five business machines in the U.S. now runs macOS, yet most security tools still treat it as an afterthought. Existing solutions weren’t built with macOS in mind. North Pole is building the platform that is. Their product, Workshop, brings true prevention to macOS endpoints by blocking threats before they can run. It's fast, scalable, and designed to stay out of the way. Security teams get precise control without disrupting workflows, and engineers are not stuck maintaining fragile, reactive tools. It takes the core idea of allowlisting and makes it usable in real enterprise environments. Workshop is built by the creators of Santa, the open source macOS security tool, and extends that foundation with smart automation, real-time policy enforcement, device control, and deep telemetry. They’ve worked directly with security leaders inside the Fortune 500 to ensure the product performs reliably under real production demands. Pete Markowsky and team understand this problem firsthand, and they’re building the product they wish they had. We’re excited to be their partners from the beginning.

🎉 Big news from North Pole Security – It’s Christmas in July! We’ve raised $4M in seed funding to make proactive macOS security scalable—for everyone. Workshop is the first commercial platform built on top of Santa, the open-source allowlisting agent we created at Google. For years, Santa helped top security teams enforce application control across massive fleets. But making allowlisting actually usable at scale? That part was never easy. Until now. With Workshop, you get: ✅ A fast, responsive Santa management platform able to manage 100k+ agents ✅ Smart approval workflows with group assignments and audit trail ✅ Threat intel integrations (VirusTotal, Reversing Labs, custom APIs) ✅ Entitlement-aware risk engine for classes of software (VMs, VPNs, etc.) ✅ Deep Santa integration + enterprise controls (SSO, SCIM, Audit) Huge thanks to our investors and advisors: Andreessen Horowitz, Royal Hansen, and others who believe in our mission: making prevention practical. This is only the beginning. Reach out to learn more
