Because of you, the plan to sell public lands is off the table. There's still work to do. This bill still guts funding for the National Park Service, weakens protections for wildlife and water, mandates more logging in our National Forests and opens the door to more fossil fuel extraction — all while deepening the country’s debt for future generations. Time outside should be healing, joyful and accessible to all. That’s the driving mission behind the REI Cooperative Action Fund — a community-supported nonprofit launched in 2021 to fund organizations working to make the outdoors more inclusive and accessible. The Fund’s latest round of giving includes $7.2 million for 76 nonprofits creating more inclusive outdoor experiences for communities across the country. “We are incredibly grateful to the #REI community of individuals, family foundations and businesses who are leaning into our mission to expand access to the healing powers of the outdoors, including a recent transformative gift over $2M supporting Justice Outside, Latino Outdoors, and Outdoor Afro,” said Kristen Ragain (managing director of the REI Fund). “This catalytic funding comes at a critical time when even more research confirms the vital role that the outdoors play in support of mental health at every age.” To date, the Fund has distributed approximately $31 million to nonprofits working to ensure that everyone can experience the health and well-being benefits of nature. Together.    We’ve spent the past few months on Capitol Hill with partners like The Conservation Alliance and Outdoor Alliance empowering our community to send over 50,000 messages to Congress. Together, we helped shut down the House’s attempt to sell off public lands. Now, it’s time to defend them in the Senate. Today, in our co-op community, we honor #Juneteenth and encourage our teams to foster discussions that promote unity and share the significance of this day of recognition. Through internal programs like our Cultural Milestones, we share how Black communities have been historically excluded from equal access to the outdoors and beyond. We also honor the history of freedom and racial equality, and how these rights make the outdoor community stronger for everyone.
