  • Americans deserve better #housing options — and the status quo isn’t working. That’s why Arnold Ventures commends the newly introduced bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act of 2025. “We are grateful to Chairman Tim Scott, Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren, and the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs for their work to develop a strong set of pro-housing proposals. We look forward to working with members to enact evidence-based, bipartisan, commonsense solutions to the housing affordability crisis,” said Jenny Schuetz, vice president of infrastructure for housing at Arnold Ventures Read the full statement: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gAZ_ftUw

  • Months ago, our interns navigated a competitive interview process to earn a spot in the 2025 Summer Cohort. This week, the tables turned. Three of our interns stepped into the role of interviewer — sitting down with AV staff to explore their career paths, day-to-day work, and the impact of our mission in action. These conversations offered a deeper look into what drives our team and the values that shape our work. 🎥 Watch the interviews and hear what inspires the people behind Arnold Ventures: #AVInternWeek #AVInterns

After a nationwide spike in 2020, homicides have been falling precipitously in most American jurisdictions and are now below their pre-pandemic levels in many parts of the country, according to data from the Real-Time Crime Index. However, we still do not know exactly why homicides rose so quickly, or why they are now decreasing significantly. A new Bloomberg Opinion column by Justin Fox dives into the available research, various theories, and unanswered questions. Discussing one of the possible explanations for the decrease in homicides, violence-interruption programs, AV's Executive Vice President of Criminal Justice Jennifer Doleac says that any answer or claim of success requires rigorous evaluation and evidence, but "it's been slow going." 📢 Houston Office:  Join us in celebrating our #AVInterns! We have three incredible interns located in our Houston office this year. All of them have done impactful and incredible work over the summer.  Eleanor Love is a rising senior at the University of Southern California pursuing a B.S. in Public Policy & Data Analytics. She supports Arnold Ventures as the Grants & Legal intern in Houston. Eleanor has previously worked for a federal agency and a U.S. Senator, drawing on her commitment to public service with an interest in philanthropic innovation at AV. #Funfact: Eleanor has been to Skópelos, the Greek island where Mamma Mia was filmed. Jianna Choi is a senior at Duke University, double majoring in Public Policy and Psychology. She is the Journalism intern in the Houston office this summer. At AV, Jianna is working on a data project to measure journalistic impact and a grant proposal for a nonprofit that works with youth to prevent domestic violence. She hopes to continue learning about how behavioral science and evidence-based research can translate into better social policies. #Funfact: Jianna spent her summer training for her first half marathon which she ran in Houston. Reese Yoshikawa is a rising senior at Georgetown University double majoring in Government and Theology, with a concentration in Religion, Politics, and the Common Good. She is working with the Criminal Justice Research, Policy, and Advocacy teams as an intern in the Houston office this summer. Reese was born and raised in Pearl City, Hawai‘i, on the island of Oahu, and much of her CJ experience prior to AV is in the Hawai‘i judicial system. She has experience as an extern with the Hawai‘i Judiciary and Attorney General’s Criminal Justice Division and was a Court Clerk with the Specialty Court Program last summer. #AVInternWeek

  • What do we know today about the impact of the legalization of sports betting? What are the financial, social, and behavioral impacts of legalized sports betting at the individual or household level? How do different policies and state regulatory frameworks influence consumer behavior and outcomes? What are the broader public-sector impacts of betting legalization? AV seeks the answers to these questions and more with a new Request for Proposals (#RFP). Letters of interest (LOIs) are due by Monday, September 15, 2025.   Further details and deadline information are available here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gAKQ5nVu

NEW: My nonprofit, the Center for Health & Democracy, just released The Sunlight Report on UnitedHealth Group to pull back the curtain on the health care giant quietly buying up your doctors, clinics, data, and more — using your premiums and tax dollars to become a 21st-century Standard Oil. Bigger than Cigna, CVS, or Humana combined, UnitedHealth raked in over $400 billion last year, with thousands of entities — 2,694 and counting — many hidden from public view thanks to SEC loopholes. This is vertical integration on steroids: they now make more money controlling your care than selling you insurance. The Sunlight Report is free and public because you deserve to see how this corporation’s unchecked growth impacts who gets care, when, and how much you’ll pay. Read the report on mobile and dive into the complete list of nearly 2,700 entities on desktop: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eRq-RyQv
