Free subscription trials are out. Why? The Center for Sustainable Media’s Founding Director, Peter Erdelyi, sums it up well in this video clip from a presentation he did for our publishers. “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵. Drawing on data collected from 101 publications across 19 countries in Europe, it breaks down what publishers are charging — and how. Though the report focuses on European publishers, it offers helpful lessons for all publishers, no matter where they’re located, including: ⭐ Why it’s risky to start cheap ⭐ Why free trials are out, and discounted trials dominate ⭐ Why you should keep the initial purchase decision simple, then upsell 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eetUtZie

Internet Publishing
Newspack gives modern news organizations the tools to publish great stories, develop a loyal audience and drive revenue.
About us
Newspack's guiding purpose is to help news organizations publish great stories, develop a loyal following, and find a path to financial sustainability at a moment when local journalism faces immense challenges. We do that by deploying a suite of open source tools and business insight that is tailored to the needs of digital news publishers and reflects industry best practices. In nearly five years, we have launched nearly 300 publications, with dozens more slated to come on board in months ahead. They range from venerable publications like the Bangor Daily News to digital startups like The City, CalMatters, and MLK50. In the process, we’ve created a vibrant community of more than 1,500 publishers, editors, and producers whose goal is to see journalism thrive in their local communities. These are the values that guide our work: Responsiveness: We demonstrate empathy and deliver quality support. Reputation: We maintain strong news industry ties, which manifest themselves in business insight and product focus. Results: We help publishers build audience, engagement, and revenue. Reliability: We ensure the platform is fast and reliable. Affordability: We use scale and open source code to deliver more for less. Innovation: We draw on the knowledge of the Newspack community to drive innovation and open-source contributions to the platform.

Thank you for the insightful Q&A with our Founder, Kinsey Wilson! It's inspiring for us to see independent news outlets like The Journal, part of the Kansas Leadership Center, and inewsource innovate their growth strategies and see success.
💸 It’s no secret that independent news publishers are often pressed for time. With only so many hours in a day, it can be difficult to juggle all the demands that come with running a local newsroom. That’s why we love to see organizations, like Newspack, that make it easier for news leaders to publish impactful journalism, grow their audiences, and ultimately, boost their revenue. We’re happy to have them on board as a sponsor of the 2025 Independent News Sustainability Summit. Check out our Q&A with Kinsey Wilson, founder and head of Newspack, and discover how they helped The Journal, part of the Kansas Leadership Center, increase their weekly average revenue by 235% and their paid supporter revenue by 107%. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gvZ7Mck9

✨ We’re thrilled to be participating in “Emergency Mode for News,” a project that received a Press Forward Infrastructure grant, announced today. We’ll be working alongside OpenNews and NC Local to help local newsrooms level up their disaster-recovery planning and tooling. Our part of the project will include improving our “Lite Sites” tool, started last year as a way to help newsrooms in Western North Carolina cover Hurricane Helene. It creates a low-bandwidth, text-only version of a news site to serve areas where a natural disaster has impacted wireless broadband infrastructure. We’ll also build tools to improve how WordPress sites publish news and provide information to their communities during fast-breaking news situations. As always, what we build will be open source and available to sites, regardless of whether they’re Newspack customers. Read OpenNews’ announcement to learn about the overall Emergency Mode project, which will create resource guides and learning cohorts that will help newsrooms understand their communities’ risks and prepare ahead of time to cover major breaking news events. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gun6WuVG
