4.5 months at Wayve sometimes feels like it’s been forever—in the best possible way. It’s incredibly challenging yet unbelievably exciting to move at such a rapid pace, tackle big problems, and see genuine transformation every single week. As one of our leaders said recently: “The sense of progress and momentum at Wayve is wild.” Our entire team is fully committed to advancing AV2.0 and building an Embodied AI product that will reshape autonomous driving. We’ve already taken some meaningful steps forward, but there’s still a long road ahead—new challenges, fresh goals, and higher mountains to climb. Of course, we’re just getting started. Autopilot mode is a mental state where a person goes about their daily life without much thought or conscious decision-making. It can also be referred to as being "zoned out" or "mind-wandering". This mode has both advantages and disadvantages. Any disciplined or consistent activity usually gets into an auto pilot mode. We all started driving with complete conscious mode. Constantly taking care of speed, braking and direction. But after driving for a long time, everything happens automatically. That's the mode. Once we achieve the autopilot mode on things that we do, our brain engages the conscious mode to do other things. The visions we experienced at the conference were truly impressive: from self-driving cars to robots making our morning coffee and even delivering newspapers, to futuristic cybertrucks taking over the streets. But that’s not all. We were particularly fascinated by the concept of "agents" that will autonomously handle tasks in our systems in the future. Just read Cade Metz's in-depth piece in The New York Times on self-driving cars. This technology has come a long way in a decade and now yields great benefits, but still, as the article points out, people need to close the loop and make it really work. Even if now they’re increasingly unseen. Technology automates ever more processes and continually enhances efficiency, but it cannot replace the creativity, adaptability, empathy, and problem-solving skills that are uniquely human. This article is a great reminder that, as new AI capacities emerge, we must continue to invest in our human teams. It’s the collaboration between people and technology that generates true progress.
