💬 “Even though I’m a housewife and didn’t finish school, I can still run and grow a business. I’m proud of what I’ve done.” Tang Pichy runs a computer shop in Siem Reap. Before joining the 'Business Network and Ecosystem Strengthening' Program implemented by SHE, implemented by Pact with funding from USAID, she struggled with confidence, staff management, and even belief from her own family. Through SHE, she gained the skills and self-trust to lead. She now runs her business with pride - “Be patient. Be strong. Don’t wait for others to believe in you - believe in yourself first.” Said Pichy whose story reminds us that business success doesn’t depend on a title or degree but on courage, consistency, and belief woith supportive system. #10YearsOfSHE #WomenInBusiness

Over the past several weeks, we again sadly have said goodbye to many of our colleagues in the United States and around the world. The sudden and sweeping closure of most of our projects has had a profound impact on Pact and on many of the communities we’ve served. Far too many of our colleagues have left the organization much too soon and deserve recognition for their years of heartfelt service to Pact and to the international development sector. Whether they’ve been here 10 months or 10 years, their contributions have helped millions of people in communities around the world meaningfully improve their lives year after year. And our colleagues' dedication has been even more inspiring over the last five months. Their concern about the communities we support and Pact’s future have been at the forefront of their actions even as they dealt with the impact on their own lives. If your organization is hiring, please connect with Pact alumni. It can become easy to think about the impact on the development sector in terms of loss of funding, positions, or functions, but each person affected has dedicated their lives to simply trying to make the world a little bit better. Without a doubt, our departed colleagues at Pact have done just that and much more. They will be missed here, and I guarantee the next organization that hires any one of our former colleagues will be lucky. We will continue to honor their contributions by making a positive impact in the world, working hand in hand with communities to build solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges, and shaping the way forward.

Senior Project Manager Moyogems | Program Management

Recently, We had the opportunity to visit the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities in the Central Region around Mount Kenya, particularly in Isiolo, Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties. These areas have gemstones deposits that include sapphire, aquamarine, beryl, garnet and quartz. It was inspiring to meet miners both men and women, who continue to work under challenging conditions yet remain committed to the sector. Their resilience is powerful, and their stories underline the need for support, especially in gemmology education, safety, and market access. This visit marks a significant milestone in our efforts to co-design a practical and inclusive approach to reaching miners with gemology training. As we continue the scoping work with local governments, partners, and communities, the insights gathered will help shape a program that reflects the realities on the ground. Looking forward to what’s ahead as we strive to build ethical, inclusive, and skills-driven ASM ecosystems across East Africa. #Gemstones #ASM #Pact #GIA
