Why summer learning matters now more than ever: "Anyone can look at the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) scores and know that we have challenges. The cohort of American students that is in high school now was in 6th, 7th grade during the pandemic, when lots of districts were remote for a year. There is a lot of evidence that they haven't recovered both academically and socially." — Nancy Gannon, FHI 360 Explore the solutions in our new Q&A: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eReYyDhv #SummerLearning #Educate2Employ #PandemicRecovery #FHI360US #AcademicAcceleration #MakeSummerSmarter

📚✨ Learning through play! At the Dreamcatchers summer learning program, teachers Ida Burton and Denise Lybrand cheer on Jacob during an enrichment activity — balancing marshmallows with a spoon. Moments like this build not only academic skills, but also confidence, creativity, and connection. That’s the power of summer learning. 🌞 📸: Bita Honarvar for FHI 360 #SummerLearning #LearningThroughPlay #DSLN #FHI360US #makesummersmarter

🚚💉 Fast diagnosis = saves lives. FHI 360 is proud to partner with Village Reach on the Strengthening Lab Transport Systems for Epidemic Preparedness and Response project. This initiative tackles a critical but often overlooked barrier to epidemic control: the transport of laboratory samples for diseases like polio, measles, yellow fever, mpox, Ebola, and cholera. Delays in diagnosis can mean delays in life-saving action. By improving referral and transport systems, we can help countries stop outbreaks before they start. In Guinea, FHI 360 works with the Ministry of Health to manage sample transport for infectious diseases. Local transporters—on motorcycles, boats, minibuses, and flights—deliver samples across the country, with every step tracked through a custom-built digital system to ensure speed, accuracy, and accountability. This work isn’t just about moving laboratory samples. It’s about moving faster than the next outbreak — and saving lives in the process. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/4mdfHBg #GlobalHealth #HealthSecurity #FHI360GHS #VillageReach #Polio #Measles #Ebola #Mpox #YellowFever #Cholera #SampleTransport #Diagnostics #EpidemicPreparedness #PublicHealth #Guinea #SavingLives #DetectToProtect #PreventDetectRespond

🎉 Congratulations to Senegal for officially eliminating trachoma as a public health problem — a remarkable public health victory and a testament to years of collaboration, dedication and community-driven efforts. 🧑🤝🧑 👏 FHI 360 was honored to be part of this achievement through the recently completed Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases | West (Act | West) project, working alongside country leaders, partners and communities to support national disease elimination goals. This milestone was made possible thanks to the leadership of the Government of Senegal, strong local partnerships and the support of global allies including U.S. foreign assistance programs, Sightsavers, RTI International and World Health Organization. 📖 Read more from WHO about Senegal’s success: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/4lsIMbZ

“This is a first for us. We now feel engaged and involved in the response against mpox.” — Surface technician, Kingabwa 🧹 They clean hospital rooms, disinfect surfaces 🧼 and handle waste 🚮. But until now, surface technicians in Kingabwa, DRC had not been trained to respond to outbreaks 🦠. That changed this June when 28 sanitation workers in the Kingabwa health zone received their first mpox response briefing, in a major step forward in keeping facilities safe and stopping the spread 🚫. The training, supported by the Congolese government, with technical guidance from FHI 360 and funding from the American people through the EpiC project, helps ensure that even the most behind-the-scenes staff are prepared to respond to infectious disease threats 🛡️. Sanitation staff now play an active role in community surveillance and early detection 🔍. Their inclusion strengthens the whole response system. At FHI 360, we believe health security depends on every team member being informed, prepared and ready to act — from doctors 🩺 to cleaners 🧽 and everyone in between. #GlobalHealth #MpoxPrevention #InfectionControl #HealthSecurity #FHI360GHS #EpiCHealthProject #DRCongo #HealthWorkforce

For the first time since the start of the mpox pandemic in Kinshasa, community agents 🧑🤝🧑 are seeing a spike in alerts — a clear sign that public awareness is working 📢 and people are taking action ✅. 🗓️ In just one week — from June 16 to 21 — 12 mpox alerts were recorded in Kingabwa, including 4 confirmed cases. While mpox remains a serious threat 🛑 this marks a turning point for epidemic response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This milestone was made possible through support from the American people and the Congolese government through the FHI 360-led EpiC Project. Together, we mobilized 22 community relays and 15 Red Cross volunteers 🚶🏽 to carry out door-to-door outreach. “This is the first time we have received so many alerts in such a short time. The messages are getting through, and the population is starting to react.” — Community agent, Kingabwa With better information and timely communication 🗣️, communities are reporting symptoms earlier, breaking transmission chains and preventing further spread 🛡️. #GlobalHealth #MpoxResponse #CommunityHealth #EpidemicPreparedness #FHI360GHS #EpiCHealthProject #DRCongo #HealthCommunication

📍Strengthening HIV data systems in Papua New Guinea 🧬 In the face of a worsening HIV epidemic, timely and accurate data is more critical than ever. In Papua New Guinea, we’re transforming how HIV data is collected, reported and used — starting at the sub-national level and building toward national impact. With support from the American people through the FHI 360-led EpiC project, we developed the Outbreak Information Management System (OIMS). What began as an emergency tool has now become a cornerstone for routine disease surveillance 📊. 🚀 In June 2025, we reached a major milestone: ➡️ For the first time, HIV case-based data was integrated with routine surveillance data in the National Capital District. This is helping health leaders: ✅ Identify trends faster ✅ Improve HIV services ✅ Target interventions more effectively 🖥️ OIMS is the country’s first national deployment of DHIS2, the world’s leading open-source health information platform — and it’s being used to strengthen HIV surveillance nationwide. To ensure sustainability 🔧, we’re working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the National Department of Health to securely migrate data to a government-hosted server, ensuring full local ownership 🏛️. This is how we build resilient, data-driven health systems that work not only in emergencies — but every day. #GlobalHealth #HIVResponse #HealthData #DigitalHealth #FHI360GHS #EpiCHealthProgram #PapuaNewGuinea #DHIS2 #HIVSurveillance #PublicHealth #HealthSystems
