Fighting Scams: Financial Fraud Prevention for Seniors   At our most recent Aging Well Expo, we also welcomed back Alex Cadenas from the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), along with @Reetu Singh and @David Ngo from Wells Fargo, for one of the most important sessions of the day, a conversation on financial fraud prevention. With warmth, clarity, and urgency, Alex’s presentation delivered real-world strategies to help our community members spot red flags, avoid common scams, and protect themselves and their loved ones from financial exploitation. From identity theft to imposter scams, seniors walked away not just informed, but empowered to take action. The session struck a chord with many attendees, some of whom shared personal stories, asked thoughtful questions, and thanked the presenters for shedding light on issues often left in the dark. This session wasn’t just informative, it was essential. That’s exactly what our Aging Well Expo is all about: creating a space where older adults feel supported in asking, learning, and advocating for themselves. At our most recent Aging Well Expo in June 2025, that belief came to life in the most powerful way. We witnessed seniors asking thoughtful, bold, and even challenging questions about Medi-Cal, CalAIM, and the services available to them. It wasn’t just participation, it was ownership. The energy in the room shifted from passive listening to empowered engagement. The recent Omatochi Aging Well Expo at the Incredible Church in Oakland was an absolute blast and our biggest event yet. Over 120 vibrant seniors and caregivers united to celebrate wellness, joy, and the power of community! We had a fantastic day packed with energizing dance sessions, calming yoga classes, on-the-spot health resources, and expert-led panels diving into Medi-Cal, nutrition, and caregiver support.
