Post-secondary education is a proven multiplier to lifetime earning potential. But for many high-school students, the sometimes-ominous process of applying to college is a significant barrier. So the Foundation in 2024 awarded a grant to the PASSHE Foundation, to enable students to more easily apply to the schools of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education–learning almost instantly if they are accepted, and even if they are eligible for a merit scholarship. The innovative direct-admission process is achieved through a partnership with Niche, a Pittsburgh-based technology company founded by Luke Skurman. The Foundation funds the initiative through its Economic Mobility program, which seeks to give all youth in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties access to their most promising future.
