7️⃣5️⃣ years of innovation that changed industries and everyday life. 👀🚀 This May marks a milestone in industrial innovation: the 75th anniversary of the original patent 📜 for the continuous production of fiberglass nonwovens (aka glass fiber mat) - a technology that has transformed roofing, as well as various other industries. Back in 1948, our legacy company Schuller GmbH began experimenting with a bold idea 💡: creating a weather-resistant, non-organic mat for roofing applications that would be needed in a coming boom in the German construction industry following World War II. What began as experimental trials turned into something revolutionary. In 1950, the first 300 meters of glass fiber mat were produced. The response? An initial 1,000 m² order. Demand exploded. On May 5, 1950, the process was officially patented ✅, and the world would never roof the same way again. What started as a game-changer for roofing 🏢, became the invisible backbone of countless industries 💪. Fiberglass nonwovens are all around us, every single day, often without us even noticing. Today, as part of Johns Manville, we carry this pioneering spirit forward.
