If you work in midstream, you’ve felt Chris Lindenberg's work — even if you didn’t know it. At the Natural Gas Symposium in Tulsa, the GPA Midstream Midcontinent Chapter presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Chris Lindenberg, owner and president of Western Filter Co., Inc., for more than 50 years of service to gas processing and the GPA/GPSA community. From his first visit to a gas plant at age eight with his father, Ed, to refinery work in the ’70s and acquiring Western Filter in 1984, Chris has spent a career keeping plants running and people connected. Highlights include:  - 17 years on the GPSA Board, including president (2012); Executive & Finance and Membership committees; chapter liaison.  - Midcontinent Chapter member since 1978; 32 consecutive annual meetings; every officer role; countless committee posts.  - Regular support for plants across 12 states and a tireless recruiter for GPA Midstream and GPSA.  - 2018 GPA Midstream Citation for Service Award recipient. Service runs in the family! Ed Lindenberg served as GPA president in 1981 (while based in Caracas) and received the Citation for Service Award in 1982. Chris and Ed remain the only father-son pair to have led GPA/GPSA. Please join us in congratulating Chris — and thanking the Midcontinent Chapter — for celebrating a career devoted to the people, plants, and community that power the midstream industry.

This week’s term: Bridging Calculation Sometimes one gas chromatograph just isn’t enough to get all the answers you need, so you run the same sample using two different methods, each better at measuring different components. But now you’ve got two sets of results that don’t quite line up! Enter the bridging calculation: it uses a shared component (like pentanes) to “handshake” the two results into one consistent composition. It’s like stitching together two halves of a jigsaw puzzle. GPA Midstream released the following statement: GPA Midstream Association applauds introduction of the bipartisan Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act, which takes meaningful steps to modernize and streamline the federal permitting process. Thanks to Rep. Representative Bruce Westerman (R-AR-4) and Representative Jared Golden (D-ME-2) for their leadership. The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) has become unnecessarily cumbersome and needs to be reformed. This legislation will help do just that, accelerating the development of critical energy infrastructure. This bill will also help ensure special interest groups can’t use the courts to stop energy infrastructure construction, which has been done in the past. We commend US Congress for recognizing the need for durable permitting reform that balances environmental stewardship with economic growth. GPA Midstream released the following statement: GPA Midstream appreciates the actions the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken to ensure practical application of “Standards of Performance for New, Reconstructed, and Modified Sources and Emissions Guidelines for Existing Sources: Oil and Natural Gas Sector Climate Review Final Rule.” The recognition of the unreasonable timelines and the willingness to adjust to more reasonable expectations is appreciated by operators of midstream oil and natural gas companies.   Over the past several years, GPA Midstream has engaged the EPA on the “Quad O” series of emissions standards for the oil and natural gas production sector. Numerous GPA Midstream members are subject to those rules, including the latest iteration – Subpart OOOOb – which was promulgated last year. GPA Midstream has raised concerns with what was promulgated. While the deadline extension is appreciated, the association also hopes the agency will focus on making sure environmental regulations are practical and fit-for-purpose for midstream oil and natural gas operators.
