You’ll get to learn what PTSD and Posttraumatic Growth are, current legal protections for mental health during armed conflict, Red Cross resources for mental health, and coping strategies for dealing with trauma through an interactive event full of activities that bring this important discussion to life! In a small village in present day eastern Ukraine where resources are scarce because of the war, there was an old, cracked cup that had been passed down through generations. It sat by the well, meant to collect water for those who needed it - but the cracks ran deep, and no matter how much was poured in, the water always slipped away. This cup was an anlogy for their home, their community, their institutions - broken by years of hardship and injustice. The people carried wounds they could not name, pain that seeped into their bodies and minds. Some grew sick before their time. Others turned to drink or despair to numb what they could not fix. The children, too, bore the weight of it, though they did not understand why. A well-meaning stranger once came, promising to mend the systems that had failed them - new laws, new leaders, new ways. But the cup remained cracked. The people remained hurt. And so, nothing truly changed. Then one day, someone asked: What if healing came first? Not from outsiders with plans and policies, but from the people themselves - gathering to share their stories, to grieve what had been lost, to tend to the wounds that no one had ever acknowledged. Only then, with the cracks slowly sealed by hands that understood the breakage, could the cup hold water again. Only then could the systems built upon it stand strong. Justice without healing is like water poured into a broken vessel. It will not last.
