🚨 The CDAO is excited to announce it has awarded contracts to leading U.S. frontier AI companies – Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI to accelerate DoD adoption of advanced AI capabilities to address critical national security challenges. These awards will enable the Department to bring in the best American frontier AI talent and technology to develop agentic AI workflows across a variety of mission areas. The awards announced today complement other CDAO investments to provide generative AI to the Joint Force, including through Army’s Enterprise Large Language Model Workspace powered by Ask Sage, and AI models embedded within DoD enterprise data and AI platforms, such as Advana, Maven Smart System, and Edge Data Mesh. CDAO exercised its organic acquisition authority to issue the awards announced today, demonstrating DoD acquisition can move at the speed of emerging technology and operational necessity. The Global Information Dominance Experiment (GIDE) continues to test and advance command and control (C2) technologies for the Department of Defense. Through GIDE, CDAO accelerates the adoption of mission command data integration capabilities seamlessly connected to the tactical edge for decision advantage. GIDE 14 is underway with exercises such as INDOPACOM’s Pacific Sentry, testing data-driven capabilities and interconnectivity across Services—on live networks, with real data, and real users. This approach strengthens joint readiness by delivering usable capability after every iteration. GIDE reinforces the Department’s commitment to opening its data ecosystem to third-party innovators, ensuring warfighters benefit from the best technology the U.S. has to offer. Welcome to Dr. Douglas Matty in his new role as Chief Digital and AI Officer! The Department has charged Dr. Matty with leading its efforts to accelerate the adoption of data, analytics, and AI from the boardroom to the battlefield to enable decision advantage. Dr. Matty brings decades of national security experience, wtih a focus on artificial intelligence, data integration, and operational command. He previously served as the Director of Army Artificial Intelligence at U.S. Army Futures Command and is a founder of the U.S. Army Artificial Intelligence Integration Center. These roles followed a distinguished 30-year career as an activte duty officer in Air Defense Artillery and Operations Research and Systems Analysis Functional Area. CDAO is excited to continue to enable, speed, and scale the adoption of data, analytics, and AI under Dr. Matty's leadership.
