The City of Vacaville - A beautiful place to live, a great place to work!

About us

Vacaville, California is located in northern Solano County, midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. The City's rich history has transformed the community from a small agricultural town into a thriving and progressive city; now a diverse population of 100,000 residents who pride themselves on a high level of community involvement. While the City’s population history and demographics show its rapid growth, Vacaville had maintained its small town charm. Affordable housing, quality schools, a wide array of youth activities, and numerous community events contribute to making Vacaville a family-oriented city. Residents of all ages participate in organized sports leagues year-round. There are also high quality recreation programs for all ages, and state-of-the-art public recreation facilities, including a community pool with water slides and a diving well, ball fields, and a skateboard park. Numerous community events throughout the year provide fun for the entire family, including the annual Fiesta Days and Fourth of July celebrations, concerts during the summer at the downtown Creekwalk, and the “Merriment on Main” festivities during the holiday season. With Vacaville’s central location, residents can “day trip” to beaches, Lake Tahoe, and the Napa wine country. For those who want to stay local, Lagoon Valley Park provides the opportunity to fish, hike, and sail in a scenic, natural setting. Other options include enjoying the downtown with a stroll along the beautiful Creekwalk, catching a movie, or hitting the ice at the skating center. Residents and visitors enjoy an expanding choice of restaurants in the revitalized, historic downtown, and some of the best shopping in the area with a thriving retail district along Interstate 80 that includes one of the largest factory outlet complexes in California. • Let’s celebrate Lake Appreciation Month by taking a closer look at Lake Berryessa. This reservoir is one of three sources of drinking water for Solano County. Berryessa is a popular fishing destination and is part of the ecologically diverse Putah Creek Watershed. The Monticello Dam, located at the Southeast end, is used for flood control and for generating hydroelectric power. Lake Solano provides water for over 400,000 people and hundreds of farms that grow everything from walnuts to tomatoes. • Dip your toes into something special! Summer is a great time to take advantage of your pool! Did you know that on average, a pool that is 500 square feet can lose between 12,000 and 31,000 gallons of water per year through evaporation? That means that your pool is working harder to refill, using energy and water! Help reduce your water bill and keep your pool running smoothly by using a pool cover. Pool covers can help reduce evaporation by more than 90 percent, and for heated pools, can save between 50-70 percent of heating costs (US EPA, 2022). Solano county Water Agency offers rebates on qualifying new pool covers! Visit www.scwa2.com! Solano County Water Agency

  • Plant of the month! Shady oaks. Oaks are plant enthusiasts’ favorite and are native to Solano County. They can be seen dotting the hills throughout the county. Several species of oak call Solano County home, including Coast Live oak, Interior Live Oak, Valley oak, and Canyon Live oak. We want to highlight native oak species this July to help remind you that trees are vital to the urban and suburban environments. On hot summer days, trees provide shade and help to cool the environment surrounding them. Not only do shade trees help to keep your surrounding garden space cooler, but they can also help reduce energy consumption and provide important habitat for native wildlife. Oaks are environmental powerhouses, providing sustenance to numerous insects and mammal species. Though we love oak trees for their beauty, ecological, and cultural value, we recommend growing a tree that suits your home and setting (as oak trees can grow quite large over time). We recommend planting trees that may provide shade, are not brittle or invasive, are drought tolerant, and will do well in your microclimate. Interested in adding some cool summer shade trees to your garden? Visit www.scwa2.com for rebates on eligible climate ready trees! Solano County Water Agency
