What’s Happening on West Texas Street? A Closer Look On July 28, Fairfield will begin construction on the West Texas Street Improvements Project—an essential part of the Heart of Fairfield vision to create a safer, greener, and more people-centered downtown corridor. West Texas Street was once a five-lane highway designed for high-speed traffic. Today, it serves a diverse community where many residents walk, bike, and use transit. For years, concerns about fast-moving vehicles, narrow sidewalks, and limited crossings have been raised—and the City has listened. The project will deliver: ✅ Expanded 14-foot sidewalks with trees, lighting, and benches ✅ Protected (Class IV) bike lanes for safer, more accessible cycling ✅ High-visibility crosswalks and curb extensions to slow traffic ✅ Upgraded transit stops with enhanced ADA access ✅ Landscaped medians and stormwater features for environmental sustainability ✅ Pedestrian-scale lighting to improve safety and comfort at night With nearby destinations like the Fairfield Transportation Center, Suisun Amtrak Station, Allan Witt Park, and local schools, West Texas Street is more than a roadway—it’s a vital community connector. As one parent shared, “We walk our kids to school and there’s nowhere to cross.” This project directly addresses that safety concern and emphasizes equity and livability for all residents. Learn more about the project and vision at fairfield.ca.gov/complete. #WestTexasProject #HeartOfFairfieldCA #CompleteStreets #SafeStreets #CommunityDriven #FairfieldCA
