Creating pathways to health for all, responding to disasters, & ensuring access to quality care for 45 years!

About us

For 45 years, we have been a beacon of health and hope for communities worldwide, confronting pressing health challenges. Established in 1979, we are a health-focused humanitarian organization dedicated to responding to people affected by poverty, disaster, and inequity with life-changing health programs, medicine, and supplies. Our mission is to help people and communities access health in times of disaster and every day. We envision pathways to health and opportunity for all, driven by our commitment to sustainable solutions and treating people as they want to be treated. To date, we have provided over $20 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the US. We distribute over $900 million in medicine and supplies to 90 countries each year. Over the next five years, we aim to help 100 million people gain access to quality healthcare. Let’s make health happen for everyone, everywhere.

  • By November 25, 2020, 2.5 million people in Honduras had limited or no access to health services due to back-to-back hurricanes. Even with the destruction of their local clinics in Santa Barbra, Dr. Saydi Paredes and her team didn't stop - they continued providing health care, such as visiting neighborhoods to administer flu vaccines to senior citizens and children. Thanks to the local community, and #Americares partner ChildFund, Dr. Saydi received the keys to a new clinic—now stronger and better prepared for future storms. This dedication to bringing health care to communities, no matter the distance, demonstrates the commitment to #Americares mission to provide pathways to health and opportunity.

  • #Gaza is facing a catastrophic health and hunger crisis. The entire population is at critical risk of famine. In just the last 24 hours, 14 more people have died from starvation and malnutrition. Every statistic represents a family, a community, a future cut short. These are preventable deaths. A humanitarian pause and air drops of aid are not enough. #Americares

  • Our Americares Philippines team was on the ground in February 2025, when the Kanlaon Volcano began the process of eruption. Our team distributed essential hygiene kits and N95 masks to displaced families in evacuation centers, while also providing mental health support, including special art activities for children. Our efforts included health education sessions and proper handwashing demonstrations with the goal to prevent disease spread in crowded evacuation facilities. We've delivered critical medical equipment including nebulizers and oxygen regulators to support those with respiratory issues. Your support helps us respond quickly when disasters strike. Together, we can help these communities recover. #Americares

  • Today, we were proud to celebrate the launch a new climate resilience toolkit to help health centers protect patients from the growing health risks of extreme weather in the Philippines. Americares Philippines Country Director Paul Gwyn Pagaran and Secretary of Health Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa from the Department of Health (Philippines) unveiled the new toolkit at a recent ceremony to highlight this new resource. Developed by Americares and Harvard C-CHANGE with support from Johnson & Johnson, the toolkit includes practical, evidence-based guidance on responding to extreme heat, floods, and typhoons—and is available in English, Tagalog, Ilocano and Cebuano. Available to all 3,800 health facilities across the Philippines, the toolkit equips frontline health workers with the tools they need to deliver care in the face of a changing climate. • When life brings unexpected challenges, compassionate healthcare makes all the difference. Meet Yenny and her son Edvin, whose journey began with a premature birth during COVID-19 lockdowns in El Salvador. Thanks to #Americares clinic in rural Usulután, this determined mother found hope and comprehensive care close to home. At Americares - Clínica Integral de Atención Familiar, Americares pediatrician Dr. Gutierrez diagnosed Edvin with hydrocephalus and created a specialized care plan. Now he receives coordinated care from neurologists, orthopedists, ophthalmologists, and therapy teams - all in one accessible location. Yenny’s hope for her son shines bright thanks to quality healthcare that would otherwise be too distant or expensive.

  • No matter the name, be prepared for the storm. Hurricane season preparedness is crucial and can help save lives. The impact of these storms goes beyond the damage around us, it can include physical injuries, waterborne illnesses, respiratory problems from mold, and mental health issues due to stress and loss. We're committed to building resilient communities and supporting those affected by extreme weather events. We stay with communities for months, even years, to help them rebuild stronger climate resilient health clinics and prepare for future disasters. #Americares is there before and after the storm. Do you want to make a difference? Learn how you can help protect vulnerable communities and support our climate-resilient health initiatives. Together, we can build stronger, more prepared communities. Read more here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbrnw.ch/21wUfPr
