Recently, a crew of our local A to Z team volunteered with a Forest Park cleanup effort in Portland. Community efforts like this are great to help out and learn more about your area. Who knew that ivy is actually an invasive species? We were tasked with pulling out vines from the slopes alongside the park’s trail in an effort to prevent erosion and encourage growth of native species. We also learned how dependent the local parks service is on volunteer hours, logging enough to equate to over 200 full time employees. We’re all about leaving places better than we found them, and with the fresh air, camaraderie, and a cause, we were happy to contribute to this forest gem in our backyard!
