‘Watt’ a milestone. On Tuesday, the first electrified passenger service ran between Church Fenton and York. This, combined with the Stalybridge to Manchester section means that the TRU East Alliance has electrified over 25% of the route - a major milestone in our journey to deliver a faster, greener, and more reliable railway across the North. We would like to congratulate and thank everyone for achieving this safely, ahead of time, and on budget. This is the culmination of many years of work, and its success is a testament to the capability, commitment, and collaboration of the East of Leeds Alliance. At a recent Step up for Safety event, our plant teams were asked to bring a donation to Scunthorpe’s The Salvation Army food bank. We think it’s fair to say that everyone got behind this request, and the picture of their donations does not do it justice. The response was very overwhelming, with plenty of non-food items as well as food supplies; estimated at over £1,000. The Salvation Army confirmed that they had supported more than 100 people the week following the donation, so the team’s contribution was very timely and very well received. Graham C., our route knowledge manager, recently celebrated his tenth year with the business.   Graham is a brilliant asset, he is busy developing his route knowledge of the Anglian region to support our driver maintainer operators, along with the practical side of OTM driver training; including developing a training video library (with the help of the drivers) of the Anglian routes and updating track maps for better accuracy.   Thank you for your support, and we look forward to celebrating your next long service milestone.   #cando #longservice #recognition

Last month, the TRU East Alliance installed the first overhead wires on the section of route between Leeds and Church Fenton. A HUGE well done to Team VolkerRail, for taking part in this year’s Three Peaks by Rail challenge to raise funds for the Railway Children. The team began the three day event on Thursday evening, departing by steam train to Snowdon. From there the team hiked overnight before travelling to Ravenglass to climb Scafell Pike, before reboarding the train to travel up to Fort William, to climb the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Unfortunately, the weather was not on their side, and whilst many of us enjoyed the glorious sunshine, those taking part fought through wind, rain, and very poor visibility; with the summit at Scafell Pike being unreachable due to flooding.
