Scottish charity providing adventure play services & whole family support for disabled children, young people & families
About us
The Yard is an award-winning Scottish charity running adventure play services for disabled children, young people and their families. We offer creative, adventurous indoor and outdoor play experiences in a well-supported environment. The Yard Edinburgh has been supporting local families since 1986. The Yard Dundee opened in 2015 followed by The Yard Fife in 2016. Our family sessions centre around play, building friendships and having fun, but also offer information, advice and support for parents, carers and siblings. We also offer play sessions for schools and early years groups, youth clubs, and a range of play and disability training courses for parents and professionals, all from our flagship Edinburgh centre.

💬 | "It’s a place she can just be herself, and feel free. We’re so excited about the reopening and the opportunities the new building will bring." Pamela Donaldson and her nine-year-old daughter are among the 40 parents, children and Yard team members taking on this year’s Dundee Kiltwalk to raise funds for the transformation of The Yard Dundee. The refurbishment will create a fully accessible, year-round community hub for disabled children, young people and their families, complete with a sensory room, expanded play areas, a Changing Places toilet, and more. Every step our “Yardonians” take brings us closer to reopening this autumn. 👉 Donate: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gDNRpFBF Read more: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gdwP6azF #TheYardDundee #InclusivePlay #Kiltwalk #BuildingCommunity #DisabilityInclusion #Fundraising

Yesterday we celebrated the ceremonial opening of The Yard Glasgow! Families, funders, and supporters joined us for a special ribbon-cutting with Natalie Don-Innes, Minister for Children, Young People and The Promise. While we’ve been welcoming families throughout the summer, it was wonderful to come together and officially mark this important milestone. From the first idea to yesterday’s ribbon cutting, this project has been a true collaboration. We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our funders, including The Scottish Government, The Gosling Foundation, Robert Barr Charitable Trust, Children’s Aid, Allied Vehicles Group Charitable Trust, Hugh Fraser Foundation, and Spifox. A special thanks also goes to our brilliant contractors, CCG (Scotland) Ltd, and our project managers, AECOM, for helping bring our vision to life. We had a wonderful day marking this special moment alongside those who made it possible, celebrating the start of an exciting journey as The Yard continues to grow and develop. Photos by @juliebroadfoot, thank you for capturing such a special day! #TheYardGlasgow #CommunitySpaces #ChildrensServices #GlasgowCommunity #BuildingCommunity

Hello, Glasgow! We're so happy to be here! After months of hard work and planning, we were thrilled to welcome families through the doors of our brand-new centre for the very first time on Saturday. Despite a slightly wet start to the day, the sun soon came out, along with lots of smiles, laughter and wonderful feedback from our new families. A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life. Whether you donated, volunteered, or cheered us on from afar, your support has made inclusive play a reality in the West of Scotland. The Yard Glasgow is our fourth centre, and we're proud to be expanding our reach, giving more disabled children and their families a chance to play, connect, and thrive in a space created just for them. #TheYardGlasgow #InclusivePlay #TeamYard #OpeningDay #Charity #DisabilitySupport
