Climbing Back in Time: Would Mallory & Irvine Have Made It Today? One hundred years after their mysterious disappearance, we're partnering with the Turner Twins who are setting out on a unique scientific expedition to find answers - not by climbing Everest, but scaling a 6,500m peak under similar conditions. With one twin wearing fully reconstructed 1924 expedition kit and the other equipped with the latest high-altitude gear, this project is designed to measure how far mountaineering has come in a century. In partnership with the University of Portsmouth, they'll compare everything from cortisol levels, dexterity, and thermal efficiency to overall physical performance. Monthly recap: July 🏃♀️🍃 July brought the highly anticipated Lakeland 50 & 100, an event truly special on the Montane calendar. This race fosters an unparalleled sense of community and camaraderie. Witnessing participants leave absolutely everything on the trail as they tackle the beautiful fells of the Lake District is nothing short of extraordinary. We were incredibly proud to have our athletes, ambassadors, and employees compete across the weekend. A standout was Montane ambassador Joe Higgins, who completed the 50-mile race—his very first ultra-marathon! "In 2012, I was told I'd never run again after a car crash left me in a coma with a broken back. Two years later, I crossed the Lakeland 100 finish line. Last week, a team from Montane HQ travelled to North Wales to take on the Hike Bike Paddle Challenge — competing against other outdoor industry brands, all in support of the Youth Adventure Trust The Youth Adventure Trust is a fantastic charity that helps young people build confidence and resilience through outdoor experiences. It was inspiring to see firsthand the incredible impact they have on children’s lives. We’re proud to share that the team finished 2nd overall, securing 1st place in the Hike section! It was a beautiful but scorching day, which made the challenge all the more demanding.
