✨ New milestone for medical oxygen access in East Africa ✨ Earlier this week, MedAccess, Unitaid and the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. announced a new volume guarantee agreement with Synergy Gases (Kenya) Ltd to expand access to affordable liquid medical oxygen across sub-Saharan Africa. This agreement marks a major step forward for the East Africa Program on Oxygen Access (EAPOA), the continent’s first regional initiative to increase the availability of medical oxygen. It’s also the first MedAccess agreement focused specifically on regional manufacturing – an important shift toward building sustainable, locally led health systems. The oxygen will be produced at a new state-of-the-art facility near Kilifi County, Kenya. From there, it will be distributed to hospitals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The EAPOA aims to expand medical oxygen production by 300% in East Africa. This will: 🚚 Build the foundation for sustainable, local production and distribution. 🫧 Strengthen regional oxygen security so medical oxygen is accessible where – and when – it's needed most. ⬇️ Reduce oxygen prices by up to 27%, saving money for local health authorities and individual hospitals. ✨ One year ago, Brazil became one of the first malaria-endemic countries to roll out G6PD enzyme testing alongside single-dose tafenoquine – marking a major step forward in the fight to eliminate P. vivax malaria. ✨ Tafenoquine – a ‘radical cure’ treatment – can eliminate the P. vivax malaria parasite from the liver in one dose. But it can also cause severe anaemia in G6PD-deficient patients, which is why G6PD testing is so important. Back in 2022, the G6PD test market was fragile and SD BIOSENSOR INC's G6PD test was the only one on the market. A MedAccess volume guarantee meant SD BIOSENSOR INC's could continue to produce the test and supply it at an affordable price in low- and middle-income countries. Today, more people can access the most effective type of treatment, avoid relapse and live life malaria-free. Find out more about how this life changing test reached some of Brazil’s hardest to reach communities first ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world's most deadly infectious diseases. Meanwhile, drug-resistant TB is a growing crisis – historically, treatment options have been long and complex with toxic side effects. In 2022, the World Health Organization recommended a new regimen – BPaLM – that’s simpler and over 89% effective. However, it includes newer, more expensive drugs. We partnered with Viatris and TB Alliance to reduce the price of pretomanid – the ‘Pa’ in BPaLM. This has resulted in: 🌟29,500 additional patients treated ❌25,300 severe adverse side effects avoided 📉34% price reduction Read more about this partnership and the impact of our innovative finance agreements in our latest Annual Review: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/etZb2cuW
