Want a career that can take you anywhere in Queensland? We loved hearing Senior Constable Michael Coleman talk through his experiences as a 21-year police officer and all the places the Queensland Police Service can take you. 🎤 "You can go anywhere in the state. You can explore way up Noth to way out West. You can get into the water police. Into Polair. Become a detective…There are many avenues in the Police Service." For Michael, he’s motivated by working with communities like those he grew up with. 🎤 "I saw the people I grew up with and how they needed help, and I thought this is the best way to go about helping people like me." Ever had to call 13 HEALTH? You’ll have appreciated the calming voice at the other end of the line. Registered nurse Beth is one of those voices. 'I like to think of us as a sounding board,’ she says. 'We get calls from people going through all sorts of things where they just aren't sure what to do. The reassurance we offer is so important. We listen to what's going on and provide that clarity, calm and direction they're looking for,' she said. It’s certainly different to hospital nursing. As well as providing key health advice to Queenslanders around the clock, you’ll also assess symptoms, assist with navigating the health system and guide callers through health concerns ranging from medication to general wellness inquiries. Nurses like Beth find it’s great for continuing to build knowledge. Thinking about a career at 13HEALTH? Two words from Beth: 'Do it! In the 5 years I've been here I've learnt so much from the callers, from educating myself and from the education network here.’ Looking for a fresh challenge in a career in health? Meet Jacinta Delalande, the Head of Special Education Services at Glenmore State High School where she leads FlexiSpaces. FlexiSpaces is a Queensland Department of Education initiative aimed at reconnecting disengaged students in learning. Many state schools across Queensland offer FlexiSpaces and at the heart of this approach are passionate educators like Jacinta. ‘FlexiSpaces give me a way to make true change – not just academically, but holistically for the young people I work with.’ 🌠 Jacinta said her journey into teaching was influenced by her own school years which she described as challenging. ‘It wasn’t the academics that were the issue, but that sense of belonging was not strong for me,’ she said. ‘That has stayed with me and influences the work I do now.’ Jacinta said one of her biggest success stories is a student who will be the first in his family to graduate from Year 12. ‘When they feel like the learning is tailored to them, and they realise “this teacher appreciates who I am,” that’s when trust is built. Trust amongst our FlexiSpace community is the foundation of success.’ Many of our FlexiSpaces across the state are making incredible advancements that wouldn’t be possible without strong and dedicated educators and leaders like Jacinta.
