Ever heard of a Walgreen Agency Store? In 1929, Charles R. Walgreen Sr. partnered with independent drugstores in smaller communities. Adding Walgreen to the independent’s sign, Charles supported the agency store in operating, merchandising and other aspects of running a pharmacy. If you've ever seen an odd sign on a small town pharmacy bearing the name Walgreen preceded by a different name, you stumbled onto the remnants of a Walgreen Agency store. Charles Walgreen conceived in 1929 that good results could be achieved through the development of agencies among independent stores in small and middle sized community which had no official Walgreens stores. Working together, they became part of a giant Walgreen organized cooperative. At one time there were over 2000 agency stores.

Similar to Rexall, I think they stopped in 80's. Remember one in Kimberling City, Mo. where in-laws retired
