We brought The Mermaids to life. Then we told their story at Cannes. 🧜♀️⚓️🎥 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘀: 𝗔 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲 is an AI-generated cinematic story that brings the four mermaids (Scarlet, Valiant, Brilliant, and Resilient - that represent each ship in the Virgin fleet) to life in a way that blended mythology, modernity, and machine learning. From archetype to animation, it was a journey powered by tech but grounded in emotion. 🚢 We premiered the piece in collaboration with Virgin Voyages 🧠 We spoke about the process at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 💡 And most importantly - it still took a full crew to make it happen. AI didn’t replace the team; it expanded what we could do together. Here's a blip from our panel, more to come! I think this project is possible because we use the tool. Yeah, a misnomer is that we pressed a button and made this thing. The reality is it took a year. Yeah. The way I think about a lot of the AI jobs are are running stuff is very similar to how I used to do main title sequences. Our entire team worked tirelessly at crafting each scene, designing the art direction. I mean, it still took so many people to make. And in fact, it is still challenging. And I fight everyday to destroy this misconception of the magic button. Ohh, AI. This button that you press and everything just magically made for you. It's still requires so many people that are talented top of class at their craft building this and and working at this to create stuff that's, you know, worthy of of people's attention to watch. Ohh, man.

** AI is a magic button ** misconception isn't only prevalent in the movie industry - it's incredibly alive & real in the tech world & governance world too - AI is such a wonderful enhancement to any workflow but has to be groomed to be that, using applied practicality and true skill ... This "Mermaid" piece really was beautiful btw!
