I used to suck at UI Design. 😬 UI design might appear to be a subjective art form, but a lot of it is made up from logical rules or guidelines. Understanding these guidelines together with user research and a well defined design system can really speed teams up and remove a lot of guesswork. They can help you create experiences that are: 👉 Professional 👉 Accessible 👉 Cohesive 👉 Beautiful 👉 Intuitive I’ve read Adham Dannaway's book Practical UI, and it made a world of difference for someone like me coming from a technical background with no visual design experience. Well, to make things even BETTER, he’s released a Design System that utilizes the principles in his book! I've had early access to it, and I absolutely love it. In addition, I've been given a FREE copy of both his book and design system to give away! 👍 Like and 🔁 repost to be in the running (winner from my audience will be announced on Aug 6, 2024) You can also get a 30% discount off the design system for the first week (link in the comments). What's your biggest struggle with UI design? Do guidelines and a design system make it easier for you? Share in the comments in below. 👇 #ux #ui #userexperience #designsystem #giveaway
Adham’s posts and humor are some of the highlights of my feed. This is excellent! I struggle with UI balance, mainly in terms of white space. Guidelines have helped a lot, mainly with faang company conventions. I have yet to practically use a design system 🤔
"Thanks for sharing this, Mitchell ! What specific principles from Adham Dannaway’s book did you find most transformative for your UI design process?" 🎈
Good luck to everyone 🤞 I'm on Product Hunt too and would love your support 🫶 https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pwww.producthunt.com/posts/practical-ui-figma-design-system
I can totally relate to this! I used to struggle with UI design too. It can seem subjective, but it’s amazing how much logical rules and guidelines can help.
In my personal experience I feel like creating a practical usable UI takes lesser time compared to building a design system that is both functional and usable. Definitely had an eye opening moment when I experienced a false consensus bias and it took some research/testing to understand how other junior designers and developers perceived a design system!
Love this
UI= Practice, practice, apply, get some critique, ask/watch how others do it, copy for practice…but never forget the why and the UX behind it too. Practical UI has now been recommended to me several times now, so I shall have a look at the book or keep my fingers crossed 🤞 for the Aug. 6. (should commenting and liking count🤩). As for design systems: love working with them and the consistency they give and there is so much more to learn about keeping them alive.
Thanks for sharing!
Good insight!
