Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal death in the U.S.—but it’s often preventable. A new collaboration between the American Hospital Association and Epic outlines EHR-integrated strategies to help hospitals recognize risk early, standardize response, and improve outcomes. It always has been that, even when I started on paper charting. The experienced, well trained nurses never forget this fact. How are you teaching this with the EMR to the next gen of nurses though? Knocking it put of the park starts with triage and not a navigator, hard stops for critical thinking that cannot be deferred and integrating physicians to “nurse notification” or any of the other interdisciplinary team members. Want to remind everyone that nurses are not doctors and we are different disciplines, and yet we are the ones that have to input the information and use our clinical judgment skills for the initial and ongoing assessments. Personally- I love the dynamic capabilities of EPIC, but it’s needs to be more clinical capable and less nurse dependent.
Epic always knocks it out the park!
Thanks for bringing this important topic to top of mind this Monday!
