Another year, another Commencement Weekend begins! 🎓 As president of California State University - East Bay, I have the absolute honor of attending EVERY ceremony. Yes, all of them! I have seen happy faces, tears, dances, and of course, every shade of red shoe. The red shoes, especially, are more than just tradition. For me, the red shoes are a symbol of how special this shining ruby upon the hill is. You've likely heard me call my red shoes my "ruby slippers," like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Though I may not be Dorothy, one thing is still true: there is NO place like East Bay. Our students, our faculty and staff, our determination, and our commitment make us who we are. For many, East Bay is home, and I consider myself proudly among them. So, as always, this weekend I will throw on my "slippers," zip up my gown, and be there ready to support our unquestionably AMAZING Pioneer family. Congratulations, class of 2025!
