Congratulations to the 48 new students in the inaugural class of the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville, Arkansas. In fact, the news isn’t just a new class of doctors, but a new way forward for our entire healthcare system. As Alice Park writes in TIME, the medical school is designed to address our broken healthcare system by focusing on preventative medicine and whole health principles. As Park notes, as much as 80% of medical education focuses on biology, while 60% of premature deaths are due to behavioral factors, including lifestyle habits like diet, exercise and smoking. Having visited the school to see Alice and the incredible work she’s doing, I can say that the beautiful grounds live up to the school's goal of integrating healing with nature and art. A path from the school leads through the forest to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, which Walton founded in 2011. For decades, we’ve heard the mantra that healthcare can’t be changed. But Alice Walton is proving that wrong by training a new generation of doctors who can begin to change the system from the inside. “They will get all the science and disease knowledge they need to manage the ‘sick-care’ side of things,” Walton says. But “I wanted to create a school that really gives doctors the ability to focus on how to keep their patients healthy.” You can read the piece here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/dnmU2TSZ #Health #AliceLWaltonSchoolofMedicine #Healthcare #Doctors #AliceWalton
