What We Are Seeking from an Ideal Candidate
IPH is seeking a Principal Technical Project Manager - Data to serve as a member of the startup implementation team. This leader will be responsible for developing new capabilities and insights to achieve critical strategic and operational priorities across departments. This role will report to the Chief Data Officer and will partner with the Senior Leadership team to drive results for business unit strategic initiatives and align to the enterprise data strategy. This leader should have experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced statup environment. They should also be comfortable designing ways of working for teams and the tools required to implement these approaches.
Please note, this is a startup environment. This person will start as an individual contributor performing the duties and responsibillites of a hands-on project manager as they support the data function of the organization. The team is growing and this person will be responsible for hiring additional staff to support this area.
As Principal Technical Project Manager - Data, you will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex dataprojects spanning data engineering, governance, analytics, AI/ML, and data platform initiatives. You’ll build and scale best-in-class project management practices, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, stakeholder engagement, and high-quality execution.
To be successful in this role, the Principal Technical Project Manager - Data will need to be comfortable working in a startup environment, proactive, and eager to jump in and take ownership of issues that arise.
Good but not Ideal
While we repsect the skills and experience of qualified project leaders, this role requires a person with technical PM experience, with an emphasis on data and supporting the data-related function(s) of an organization - not software development, infrastructure, support, devops, construction, civil/mechanical engineering, etc.
Job Location: Remote – strong preference for candidates located in Greater Boston area.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end program and project management for key data initiatives across the enterprise.
Partner closely with the Chief Data Officer and cross-functional stakeholders to define project goals, success metrics, and roadmaps.
Manage a portfolio of complex, high-impact projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and budget.
Build and lead a team of project managers and/or collaborate with matrixed teams across engineering, analytics, product, IT, and business units.
Develop standardized frameworks and scalable processes for project tracking, reporting, and governance and report project progress to leaders in the business regularly
Facilitate regular project reviews, risk mitigation plans, and executive updates.
Drive continuous improvement, resource planning, and cross-functional alignment.
Champion data-driven decision-making and agile methodologies within the data org.
Qualifications:
6+ years of project/program management experience, preferably within data, analytics, or tech environments.
Proven experience managing large, cross-functional data or technology projects.
Strong understanding of data infrastructure, data governance, data platforms, or analytics lifecycle is a plus.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Adept at using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, Smartsheet) and reporting frameworks.
PMP, Agile, or Scrum certification is a plus.
Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
