We are so grateful our partnership with Tampa General Hospital and their support in spreading the importance of water safety here in Tampa Bay! Our incredible CEO, Micha Seal, sat down to share the layers of protection parents can put in place to help reduce the risk of drowning. Most importantly, formal and consistent swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning by 88%, making them truly life-saving!

This week is National Drowning Prevention Week and while drowning prevention is our top priority every day, we know it’s especially top of mind for families right now. 💧 We’re incredibly grateful for our ongoing partnership with Buccaneers player Shaq Barrett, who tragically lost his daughter to drowning in 2023. Meet Micah, the newest graduate of our Students with Disabilities program! 🎓 Micah began swimming with us at just 3 years old. Now at age 10, he’s completed all 9 levels of our program, earning his graduation medal and finishing his sticker book along the way! 🏅 Micah, who is on the autism spectrum and was nonverbal until age 7, sat down with his mom, Lisa, to reflect on their 7-year swim journey. From emotional regulation and communication growth to mastering life-saving swim skills, their experience at Watermelon Swim has been truly transformative. For July, we’re diving into back work — from relaxed back floats and rollovers to learning the backstroke for our more advanced little melons! 💦 Getting comfortable on their back is one of the biggest challenges for new swimmers, but it’s also one of the most important skills.
