The total is in—we've raised a record-breaking $20 million last night at the #TippingPointBenefit! As Tipping Point reaches 20 years of serving the #BayArea, we're grateful to our community of supporters that have made it possible for us to invest over $440 million in the solutions that are making real change in our region. Because our Board covers all our operating expenses, each dollar donated goes directly to fighting poverty. As CEO Sam Cobbs said, "Our goal is to make a measurable difference. To use our experience to work with intention and urgency to defeat poverty." To our grantees, partners, and supporters—thank you for making this work possible. We're 20 years in, and stronger than ever. Let's continue to #BeATippingPoint. 📷: Drew Altizer Photography

Summertime volunteering to support our community 🌱 Our team spent an afternoon at the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) helping prepare and bag fresh produce for our neighbors in need. The cost of living in the Bay Area makes it difficult for many to afford basic necessities like a warm, healthy meal. The majority of ACCFB clients make less than a third of the income it takes for a family to make ends meet. We're grateful to the ACCFB for their critical work expanding food access across the region, and for the opportunity to give back to our community! #BayArea #nonprofit #volunteering

In July 2023, the City of San Francisco began a five-year plan to decrease homelessness. To ensure transparency and accountability, Tipping Point has been tracking the progress through our SF Homelessness Dashboard. Here are a few highlights of the City's progress in the past two years: 📈 The City is ahead of schedule in reaching its homelessness prevention goal: San Francisco has supported 8,148 households to stay housed—more than 45% of its overall prevention goal of 18,000 households. 🏠 The City is severely behind on increasing the supply of affordable housing: 229 low-income homes were built in 2023, while The City has a goal of building 20,867 affordable homes by 2031. "...an unwavering focus on accountability is the only way we can maximize impact for the individuals who need our help." - CEO Sam Cobbs on San Francisco Examiner highlights the need for nonprofit accountability. While headlines have focused on the nonprofits engaging in misconduct, it is also important recognize and learn from the organizations that are prioritizing accountability and transparency. As a sector, we must hold ourselves accountable by accurately tracking and sharing our impact metrics. That is how we can build trust and drive support for the solutions that are making the difference for communities we serve. NEWS: Tipping Point is pledging to fundraise $1 billion in the next 10 years to support poverty-fighting solutions in the #BayArea. Federal and local government funding cuts to direct assistance and nonprofits programs mean fewer residents are able to access and receive crucial supports like student financial aid and food assistance. In a region where 1 million full-time workers and their families are in or near poverty, it is more crucial than ever to invest in solutions that support those in need. “We are accelerating our investment because the need is greater than ever. We must do more to support the most vulnerable among us.” - CEO Sam Cobbs Read more: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gHR2_pbX

"Investing in proven, effective workforce programs in essential industries like healthcare, utilities, and construction would create win-win solutions by pairing employer demand with skilled jobseekers. Yet, despite Gov. Newsom's statewide strategy on career education, his May budget revision does not include any meaningful investments in workforce training programs. Without new investments, the legislature risks exacerbating California’s affordability crisis and upending pathways to financial stability for jobseekers in the Golden State." -Lisa Countryman-Quiroz, JVS CEO Lisa's article, "As AI and federal cuts threaten jobs, California must invest in workers" was published today in Capitol Weekly and calls on the State of California and Gov. Gavin Newsom to prioritize workforce development to meet the demands of California's evolving labor market. Building community in service of Bay Area youth. 🌱 Last month, we held our final Community of Practice meeting to mark three years of our #YouthHomelessness Initiative. Thanks to a generous gift from our partners at Visa, the Youth Homelessness Initiative has fostered a strong network of nonprofits, local government partners, researchers, and youth advocates to help homeless youth find stable housing and get on a path to prosperity. In the past three years, the Youth Homeless Initiative has served 1,700 youth and counting across the #BayArea. Over 90% of youth served exited the program into stable, permanent housing. Thank you to the Community of Practice for the tremendous work helping more Bay Area youth get on a path to prosperity. #nonprofit #SFBayArea

Charvette Rojas first shared her story at Tipping Point's Breakfast in 2007. As a foster youth with a young daughter of her own, Charvette was on the brink of aging out of the foster system and faced housing insecurity. It was grantee First Place for Youth that helped them gain stable housing and encouraged Charvette to pursue her college goals. 18 years later, Charvette returns to the stage at the 2025 #TippingPointBenefit, sharing how First Place's support has opened pathways to a successful career and a thriving life for her and her family. With wrap-around resources like case management and housing support, First Place empowers foster youth to build the life they dream of.
