Our own Kathryn Hudson, M.D., Director of Survivorship at Texas Oncology, shares vital insights on cancer survivorship in this important article. Cancer treatment doesn't end when the last bell rings. Dr. Hudson emphasizes that symptoms like fatigue and sleep disturbances are common among survivors—and there's help available. 💪 "Exercise can be one way to help reduce your level of fatigue and improve your sleep," says Dr. Hudson. "Don't be afraid to reach out to other specialists who could help with these symptoms so that you can have a better quality of life." The article also highlights often-overlooked challenges survivors face, from fertility concerns to "chemo brain." Dr. Hudson notes that oncologists should discuss fertility preservation more frequently, as treatment decisions made quickly during diagnosis can have lasting impacts. At Texas Oncology, we're committed to supporting you through every stage of your cancer journey—including life after treatment. 💙 Read the full article: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/g3jVKsu6

We're incredibly proud of Stephanie Y. Terauchi, M.D., FAAHPM, one of our dedicated palliative medicine physicians who recently founded My Final Wish, Inc. - a nonprofit that grants meaningful wishes to terminally ill adults to celebrate life and legacy. Last month, Dr. Terauchi granted the organization's very first wish, sending Texas Oncology patient Kara and her husband Bill on an unforgettable trip to Kauai. From sunset cruises along the Na Pali Coast to helicopter tours and authentic luaus, every moment was filled with joy and precious memories. This is the heart of what we do at Texas Oncology - caring for our patients extends far beyond treatment. We're honored to have physicians like Dr. Terauchi who go above and beyond to bring hope, joy, and meaningful experiences to those who need it most. #TexasOncology #MyFinalWish #PatientCare

We believe community oncology practices have the opportunity to be catalysts for innovation when it comes to cancer care. Over the years, we've been privileged to see practices in The Network spearheading significant advances in how we treat cancer. One promising new study is the EMBER-3 trial, whose key investigators included Dr. Joyce O'Shaughnessy of Texas Oncology. Phase III of this study, presented at ASCO 2025, looked at patient-reported outcomes for the novel oral selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) imlunestrant (imlu) in patients with estrogen receptor–positive, HER2-negative (ER+/HER2−) advanced breast cancer. The trial showed that imlu, both alone and in combination with abemaciclib, improved progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with ESR1 mutations (ESR1m). It also preserved or improved quality-of-life scores compared to standard endocrine therapy. Recently, The Network’s Public Policy team, in collaboration with Texas Oncology, led nearly 90 physicians and advocates to the Texas State Capitol to meet with legislators. Their mission: to advance policies that make cancer care more affordable, accessible, and patient-centered. Through our collective advocacy, we amplify the voices of community oncology and their patients—focusing on: ✅ Ensuring patient choice and timely access to safe care by addressing prior authorizations, step therapy, and patient steerage ✅ Expanding access and prevention through telemedicine, cancer screenings, and genetic counseling ✅ Supporting initiatives that enhance quality of life and address the physical and emotional impacts of cancer A highlight of the event was honoring Debra Patt, MD PhD MBA, Medical Director of Public Policy at The Network, with the inaugural Physician Advocacy Champion Award—recognizing her outstanding commitment to engaging policymakers on behalf of community oncology. 🌞 Stay Hydrated This Texas Summer for Better Digestive Health! 💧 The scorching Texas heat isn't just tough on your skin – it can significantly impact your digestive health too! Proper hydration is crucial for maintaining healthy bowel function and preventing constipation, which plays an important role in overall colon health. 💡 Hydration Tips for Optimal Digestive Health: - Aim for 8-10 glasses of water daily – more if you're spending time outdoors - Start your day with water before your morning coffee - Set reminders to drink water throughout the day - Monitor your urine color – pale yellow indicates good hydration 🍉 Hydrating Foods to Add to Your Summer Diet: - Watermelon (92% water content) – perfect for hot days! - Cucumbers (96% water) – great in salads or as snacks - Zucchini, tomatoes, and leafy greens – all excellent water sources - Soups and broths – count toward your daily fluid intake ⚠️ Signs of Dehydration Affecting Your Digestive System: When you're dehydrated, your body absorbs more water from your colon, making stools harder and more difficult to pass. This can lead to constipation, bloating, and discomfort. "During these hot Texas summers, I often see patients whose digestive issues are directly related to inadequate hydration. Proper water intake is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to maintain healthy bowel function and support overall colon health. When we're dehydrated, our intestines work harder to absorb every drop of water, which can lead to constipation and other digestive complications." — Brano Djenic, MD, FACS, FASCRS Colon and Rectal Surgeon, Texas Colon & Rectal Specialists Remember: Consistent hydration is key to preventing digestive issues before they start. If you're experiencing persistent constipation or other digestive concerns, don't hesitate to consult with a healthcare professional. #TexasOncology #DigestiveHealth #ColonHealth #SummerHydration #HealthyLiving #TexasHeat #PreventiveCare
