Congratulations to SFERS’ CEO & CIO, Alison Romano, on receiving the 2025 Institutional Investor Visionary Recognition Award!
At this year’s Public Funds Roundtable, we had the great privilege of honoring two extraordinary leaders with the Visionary Recognition Award — Alison Romano Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer of the San Francisco Employees' Retirement System (SFERS), and Andrew Palmer, Chief Investment Officer of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. These recognitions celebrate not only their outstanding careers, but their transformational leadership, dedication to public service, and enduring impact on the institutional investment community. Alison leads with rare clarity, grace, and strategic foresight — overseeing more than $35 billion in assets for the City and County of San Francisco. Her work at SFERS and previously at Florida SBA reflects a powerful combination of innovation and discipline in public fund management. Andy is a values-driven leader whose investment philosophy is grounded in trust, transparency, and long-term stewardship. With decades of experience — including at ASB Capital and Tennessee Consolidated — he continues to set a high bar for what it means to serve beneficiaries with integrity and vision. Both Alison and Andy now join an esteemed group of past Visionary Recognition honorees, including industry legends like Joe Dear, Chris Ailman, John Skerjvem, Susan Chung, and Molly Murphy. Congratulations, Alison and Andy — your leadership inspires us all. #PublicFundsRoundtable #InstitutionalInvestor #VisionaryLeadership #PublicPensions #AssetManagement #InvestmentLeadership #InstitutionalInvesting #Recognition #FinanceLeadership #LeadershipMatters
