Pioneering launch at sea

About us

Offshore launch offers unique cost, resilience, and orbital access benefits. But no provider has developed a solution specified to the needs of today’s launch vehicles. Seagate Space is a team of maritime innovators developing platforms that will unlock the possibility of launch at sea, allowing the industry to focus on other challenges while increasing launch rates rapidly. We are the maritime partner of choice for the modern space industry.

  • Proud to be part of the founding wave at STATION DC—a new home for builders, visionaries, and those shaping what's next. We joined early because we believe in what this represents: the convergence of innovation, purpose, and momentum. Seagate Space is building from the keel up, and STATION DC is a launchpad that shares that spirit. Doors open September 24. Let’s make some history. www.stationdc.org #STATIONDC #FoundingMember #InnovationEcosystem #SeagateSpace

  • Happy Coast Guard Day! ⚓️ For 235 years, the U.S. Coast Guard has protected America’s maritime domain—securing ports, patrolling waters, interdicting threats, and saving lives. Their adaptability and resolve continue to shape what maritime service looks like in an evolving world. At Seagate Space, we honor that legacy and the men and women who stand the watch—ready in any weather, in any crisis, and on any sea. Semper Paratus. • The value proposition for offshore space operations is global, and it is great to see a strong maritime nation like Japan getting in the game! 🇯🇵 👏 Following its selection for the JAXA Space Strategy Fund project, NYK Line has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from ClassNK for a reusable rocket offshore recovery system. In partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, this marks a major milestone in the growing intersection of maritime and space. The unique requirements of the space industry demand custom, purposefully designed maritime innovations. Our Seagate Space team is looking forward to sharing more about our own novel assets soon... stay tuned! 👀 🔗 Link to press release in the comments. 📷 Images: NYK Group #SeagateSpace #OffshoreSpace #Maritime #Innovation

  • Access to space is entering a new era. With the U.S. Space Force’s recent release of the Space Access Resourcing Decisions Annex, a major shift is underway in how launch infrastructure will be funded, prioritized, and deployed. The message is clear: 🔹 DoD missions will take priority over commercial access 🔹 Industry will shoulder more of the cost burden As traditional fixed launch ranges become increasingly congested and vulnerable, Seagate’s modular, sea-based platforms offer a critical path forward, expanding national capacity while delivering the operational agility and resilience that the Space Force is calling for. Here’s how Seagate aligns with these new priorities: 🔸 Eases pressure on fixed infrastructure by adding flexible offshore capacity 🔸 Supports geographically distributed, threat-resilient launch operations 🔸 Enables tactically responsive timelines for national security missions 🔸 Provides safe offshore alternatives for high-risk or experimental flights 🔸 Opens new doors for commercial and emerging launch providers The moment where critical space priorities bump against one another is now, not a distant future. With the DOD rightfully prioritizing their missions and expecting commercial space to pay their fair share, industry partners must step up and offer economically viable and complementary solutions. As the maritime partner for the space industry, this is exactly what Seagate Space will deliver. 🔗 Link to the USSF Annex and SpaceNews article in comments 📷 Image credit: U.S. Space Force/Airman 1st Class Samuel Becker #SeagateSpace #SpaceForce #SpaceAccess #NationalSecurity #OffshoreLaunch

  • We’re proud to welcome Allan Storm as our Chief of Staff and Strategic Planning Lead. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran with over two decades of service, Allan brings unmatched expertise at the intersection of maritime security, regulatory navigation, and commercial space operations. His grit, experience, and roll-up-your-sleeves mindset are exactly what we need as we push maritime space launch into its next chapter. 🔹 Protecting the Maritime Domain: As a Coast Guard Prevention Officer, Allan led efforts to protect ports, vessels, and critical infrastructure, shaping national policies, enforcing maritime safety and security standards, and ensuring the safe flow of commerce through U.S. waterways. 🔹 Bridging Space and Sea: Allan supported SpaceX during key phases of their offshore recovery and port operations—both during his Coast Guard service and later as a civilian—translating complex regulatory frameworks into real-world solutions. 🔹 Mission-Focused, Results-Driven: Allan’s career highlights his focus on safety, strategy, and innovation, from maritime compliance to advising clients in regulated environments, national security, and offshore space infrastructure. 🔹 Operational Strategy Meets Execution: At Seagate, Allan is helping shape the operational, regulatory, and strategic foundation of our offshore space launch business by driving cross-functional alignment and ensuring we scale with clarity, compliance, and purpose. “Allan is one of those rare people who just gets it, whether it’s navigating a regulatory challenge or helping shape long-term strategy. He brings structure, insight, and a steady hand to complex environments and real-world experience to every conversation. Having him on board is a huge win for our team, and for what we’re building at Seagate.” — Sean Fortener, Co-Founder & COO/CRO, Seagate Space With Allan onboard, we’re better equipped than ever to build a resilient, globally deployable platform that expands access to orbit and unlocks the next era of space. #SeagateSpace #OffshoreLaunch #SpaceIndustry #MaritimeInnovation #CoastGuardVeteran

  • 🚫 The U.S. Air Force has shelved plans to build rocket landing pads on Johnston Atoll to test space cargo deliveries, citing ecological concerns and public opposition at one of the most remote and environmentally sensitive locations on Earth. While not surprising, the search for a new location will take time, and many of the alternatives face similar challenges. But the mission behind the Rocket Cargo program—rapid point-to-point delivery for urgent logistical needs—is still vital to force readiness and our ability to project power. Led by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Rocket Cargo represents a bold step in military logistics. The goal is to use space vehicles to deliver cargo anywhere on Earth within hours, whereas traditional airlift can take days. AFRL envisions same-day delivery using reusable rockets and reentry capsules. Companies like Inversion Space, Outpost, Sierra Space, and Varda Space are developing space cargo vehicles. Launch providers SpaceX, Rocket Lab, and Blue Origin also hold Air Force contracts for capability demonstrations. The path to success runs not on land, but offshore. 🌊 We believe mobile, maritime platforms offer a smarter, faster, and more responsible alternative to fixed island infrastructure. Offshore systems: 🔹 Avoid fragile terrestrial ecosystems 🔹 Reposition globally for mission flexibility 🔹 Enable recovery near the point of need 🔹 Reduce overflight and permitting constraints 🔹 Support distributed, resilient military operations If Rocket Cargo is going to deliver on its promise, offshore capabilities will be key. Seagate Space is building for that future. 🔗 Link to full article in the comments. Image descriptions: • A red-tailed tropic bird sits beside abandoned buildings on Johnston Atoll.
