Thank you to everyone who joined us for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Pediatric and Newborn Nursery Exhibit at Discovery Playhouse! We are honored to partner with Discovery Playhouse to bring this hands-on experience to life for children and families across the region. Special thanks to the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Missouri Area Chamber Of Commerce for leading the ribbon-cutting and helping us celebrate this exciting milestone. We are proud to invest in the health and education of our community’s youngest learners — and we hope you will come explore the new exhibit soon.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of Sarah Ann Aydt, MD, a longtime and deeply respected member of our internal medicine and pediatrics team. Dr. Aydt was a trusted voice among her colleagues, a passionate advocate for her patients and a steady, compassionate presence in our community. Outside of work, she brought that same spirit to the pickleball court — always connecting with, encouraging and uplifting those around her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of care and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.

We were proud to host local educators, counselors and administrators for Show-Me Careers Day—a professional development experience designed to bridge the gap between education and industry. Participants engaged in hands-on learning, department tours and meaningful conversations with team members across our organization. From clinical care to administrative support, they explored the wide range of career paths available in healthcare. Programs like this strengthen our local workforce pipeline by helping educators bring practical, real-world insights back to the students they serve. A special thank-you to the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce for making this initiative possible.

Collaboration in care leads to better outcomes. Saint Francis Healthcare System recently hosted an Asthma Care Workshop for Health Home Nurse Care Managers, area school nurses and FCC residential care nurses. The training was led by Dr. Ben Francisco and the Asthma Ready Communities team from the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Dr. John Kraemer from Southeast Missouri State University presented on home environmental assessments and trigger reduction as part of the evidence-based Asthma Bridge program. Thank you to everyone working to improve asthma outcomes across our region. Together, we’re building healthier communities.

In celebration of our 150th anniversary, Saint Francis colleagues came together to fight food insecurity through a special meal-packing service project. 33,048 meals packed. 200 volunteers. Countless lives touched. What started as a 10,000-meal goal quickly grew, thanks to your generosity, into more than 33,000 meals donated to Catholic Social Ministry Food Pantry and SEMO Food Bank. Thank you to all our colleagues for showing what it means to serve with compassion!

200 Saint Francis colleagues, alongside their families and friends, filled the Home Run Deck at Capaha Field this weekend to cheer on the Cape Catfish as they faced the Thrillville Thrillbillies! From high-fives to home runs, it was an evening full of laughter, connection and community spirit. A big thank you to Andrew Ralls, DO, Hospitalist, for representing our team with the ceremonial first pitch. We’re grateful for the people who bring our mission to life each day, both in the Healthcare System and beyond.
