The pressure isn’t new. Markets shift. People change. Deadlines don’t wait. You’re expected to make smart decisions with limited information and not much time. You don’t need someone telling you how hard it is. You need someone who can help you cut through it. That’s where strong partnerships make the difference. The kind built on experience, trust, and the ability to listen before offering advice. As Principal Geologist Louis Fourie puts it, “Clients don’t need a lecture. They need a partner.” This is what that kind of support looks like in practice. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Earlier this year, our SVP of Facilities earned one of Alaska’s top engineering honors. Danny Rauchenstein was named the 2024 Alaska Engineer of the Year—and for good reason. His design portfolio spans from remote labs in Fairbanks to critical infrastructure at the South Pole. But it's not just about where he’s worked. It’s how he’s used his expertise to serve communities, mentor others, and solve tough problems in even tougher conditions. Learn more about Danny’s impact: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/4kvWz0F #EngineeringLeadership #RESPECPeople #DesignThatLasts

Looks like Samantha Twing made the most of her summer at RESPEC! She tackled water quality projects, learned new modeling tools, and presented to more than 80 team members. Her initiative and impact earned her a spot in the inaugural class of our Kenner Intern Scholarship. We’re proud to support her continued journey as she stays on through the fall! #RESPECInterns #WaterEngineering #EngineeringCareers #TeamRESPEC

This summer I had the wonderful opportunity to work for RESPEC as a water mapping and data analyst intern within their water sector at the corporate office in Rapid City, SD. I've gotten the chance to meet some amazing people who are truly dedicated to the work they do. Being in the office this summer has shown me the great culture and responsibility an engineering consulting company really has. I've experienced flexibility, a wonderful work-life balance, and the high aspirations of a fast-growing company. I got the chance to work with 6 other water sector interns on our group project where we determined the water quality and restoration techniques and recommendations for a RV park located right along the Arkansas River. This project taught me so much about how important it is to have a team full of diverse academic background and gave me the chance to explore all the opportunities water engineering really has to offer. Last week we got the chance to present our findings to the entire water sector within RESPEC and gained valuable experience talking with 80+ team members. I'm thankful to all my teammates that made the project run so smoothly. I had the opportunity to learn so much about the software side of water modeling exploring programs such as ArcGIS Pro, PLET, and even a little python while working on client projects. On top of that I learned so many amazing ways to leverage Microsoft Excel to gather, analyze, and sort data. I also recently got announced to the inaugural class of the RESPEC Kenner Intern Scholarship. I feel so supported by my team and my office for recognizing the work I put in this summer. I'm so thankful to be working for a company that truly values its employees, intern or full-time, and puts in the effort to make that known! A huge shout out to my supervisor Cindie Kirby who made this summer hard to forget with her bright attitude and wise relatability. She's showed me how valuable fostering a positive work environment is to a team's success. "What's next?" you may ask... Well, I'm excited to announce I will be staying on as an intern through the fall semester as I finish my degree. This December I'll be completing my bachelor's in civil and environmental engineering and taking the F.E. exam. I'm excited for all the growth that is coming my way for the rest of 2025! I created this rendering for Eugene Schaefer, PE, PMP who designed the Ft Collins/Loveland (6 Million Gallon) water storage tank. There will be more exciting information and details about this interesting project, coming soon. Utilizing 3D models can be helpful in design. This rendering is an example of where the tank will be located on site. In doing the structural drafting for this project, I learned a lot about Pre-Stressed Post Tensioned Concrete Construction. I am very grateful to have learned from Eugene & John Peck, PE about the interworkings of a massive infrastructure project, like the Trilby Tank.

The site wasn’t easy. Wedged between a landfill and a natural area, with sloping bedrock and a tangle of permits. But Fort Collins and Loveland are growing fast, and the water system needs room to keep up. That’s where the Trilby Water Tank comes in. RESPEC is helping the Fort Collins–Loveland Water District build a 6-million-gallon, fully buried tank—engineered to last, but designed to disappear. Construction is underway. Permits secured. Pipelines bored. Every piece planned to support the region’s future. Soon, 60% more water storage will be right where it’s needed: quietly underground. When Nicole Rycraw started her marketing internship this summer, she didn’t expect it to lead to new interests and opportunities. This summer, she’s been working on design projects, organizing internal systems, analyzing data, and sitting in on client meetings. Along the way, she’s seen how strategy, messaging, and relationships all connect. But what’s stood out the most is the people. Supportive mentors. Honest conversations. A chance to learn by actually doing the work. Read her full reflection on how this internship is shaping the way she sees her future: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/45vY625

New Mexico’s Water Data Catalog was built to bring water data together in one place so agencies, scientists, and communities could easily find and share the information they need. Over time, though, the system became harder to use. So, RESPEC partnered with the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources to figure out where things were getting stuck and how to make the system more usable for the people who depend on it. Because water data should flow as easily as the decisions it supports. Read more: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/4mdSBvu #WaterData #DigitalTools #EnvironmentalStewardship #NMProjects

We don’t expect interns to have all the answers. We expect curiosity. Motivation. A willingness to take notes, ask questions, and stay with the problem a little longer. That's why the RESPEC Foundation launched the Kenner Intern Scholarship, a new award recognizing interns who bring those qualities to the table. And while it was hard to choose among an impressive group of students, four were selected as our inaugural recipients: -Jocelyn Konechne -Joselyn Reisner -Mark Hermano -Samantha Twing And this is just the beginning. The Kenner Intern Scholarship is about building a culture where everyone grows. If you’re early in your career and wondering whether it’s worth the effort: It is. Because we saw it. We see you. And we’re investing in what comes next. Congratulations to these four interns! 👏

Earlier this week, our RESPEC Denver office hosted the TechGirls in collaboration with WorldDenver! The TechGirls program allows young women interested in STEM careers to explore career options and meet working professionals. This program has a global reach with this particular group of girls represented by the US, Kenya, Rwanda, and Zambia. Our office learned so much from these young women. Not only did they open our minds to a more global perspective, but they also asked meaningful questions that challenged us to explore the root of why we do what we do on a daily basis. Thank you TechGirls!
