With over 25 years of experience advancing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, Smita brings deep technical expertise, strategic insight, and a systems-based approach to market transformation. Her career spans public, private, and nonprofit sectors—including impactful roles at the California Energy Commission, Itron, and New Buildings Institute—where she helped shape groundbreaking initiatives like the California Solar Initiative and the Advanced Water Heating Initiative. Most recently, she served in the Biden-Harris Administration as Director for Federal Facility Decarbonization at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where she helped lead some of the most ambitious policies in federal sustainability. Smita is a passionate advocate for data-driven decision-making and inclusive solutions that drive meaningful change. Outside of work, Smita likes to listen to audiobooks and go on long hikes and walks in nature.
