As more travelers choose electric vehicles, we’re building the infrastructure to meet the moment. ⚡️ PDX is now home to one of the first direct current fast charging systems inside an airport rental car facility that makes it easier and faster to power up EVs. It’s one more way we’re investing in the future of travel. 🔗 Read more: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gBp63k3m
🔵𝗣𝗗𝗫 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗽 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀🔵 ⚡️ In its ideal state, electricity travels at the speed of light. But actually, moving high voltage power from one point to another is rarely a quick or simple process—especially at a bustling airport. ✈ Portland International Airport (PDX) Port of Portland understands that challenge firsthand. Demand for electrical connectivity is skyrocketing at the Oregon gateway as rental car companies add more electric vehicles to their inventories. And while the airport’s consolidated rental car center is relatively new, it previously lacked the means to quickly recharge electric vehicles after customers returned them. 💰 That all changed in December when PDX unveiled one of the nation’s first common-use, direct current fast charger system inside an airport rental car quick turnaround area. The $𝟯.𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 charges electric vehicles in just a couple hours—up to eight times faster than a common Level 2 charger. Read full article ➡️ https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gBp63k3m

We set out to make #PDXairport feel like a local neighborhood filled with familiar places, local flavor, and the kind of character you expect to find in the PNW. That’s why it means so much to see many of our partners on the Willamette Week’s list of Best of Portland. This year’s winners include faves like Screen Door (Best Brunch), Powell's Books (Best Bookstore), Loyal Legion (Best Beer Selection on Tap), Tender Loving Empire (Best Local Gift Shop), Steven Smith Teamaker (Best Tea Shop), and Freeland Spirits (Best Distillery and Best Tasting Room). And there were plenty of other finalists who you can visit at PDX too, like Blue Star Donuts, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Hopworks Brewery, MISSIONARY CHOCOLATES LLC, STRAiGHTAWAY Cocktails, and the beloved Hollywood Theatre. We’re so proud of the local businesses that help create a sense of place at PDX, and grateful to our concessions team for making it possible to experience so much of Portland without ever leaving the airport.

Oven and Shaker at PDX just took home two major industry awards; and it’s easy to see why. Created in partnership with Chef Cathy Whims, barman Ryan Magarian, and SSP America, this locally inspired spot was named Best New Food & Beverage Full-Service Concept by Airports Council International - North America and Best New Local Concept Representing Sense of Place by the The Airport F&B + Hospitality Conference & Awards (FAB). From hand-stretched sourdough pizzas to cocktails with names like “Pineapple Trainwreck”, every detail was designed to feel like your dining in a local neighborhood. It's personable, thoughtful, and full of flavor which is exactly what airport dining should be. Congratulations to the whole team for creating an experience that reflects the creativity, warmth, and sense of place that travelers love about PDX.

Oregon's building something different, and mass timber is at the center of it all. The Oregon Mass Timber Innovation Engine, led by the University of Oregon, was just named a semifinalist in a national program from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The goal? Support rural jobs, improve forest health, and create new ways to build housing that’s faster and more efficient. We’ve seen what’s possible. From the new wooden roof at PDX to the work underway at our Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus at Terminal 2, the Port of Portland is excited to be among the regional partners shaping the next chapter in Oregon’s timber story. Everyone deserves to feel welcome and supported when they travel. Because travelers’ needs vary, the support available at PDX does too. Whether you’re navigating the airport with a mobility aid, managing sensory sensitivities, or simply looking for a little extra guidance, we’re here to help: ✨ GoodMaps offers step-free routing and audible directions for travelers with mobility or vision needs. 📱 Aira connects blind, low-vision, or hard-of-hearing travelers with live, professional visual and sing language interpreters. 🧠 Sunflower lanyards, sensory bags, and our sensory room on Concourse D support folks with autism, PTSD, or other hidden disabilities. 🐾 Therapy dogs are here to bring calm and comfort on your journey. 🦻 Hearing loop systems make it easier to communicate in busy areas if you use hearing aids or cochlear implants. ♿ Wheelchair service is available from the curb, parking garage, rental car center, and throughout the terminal. 🙋♀️ And our PDX volunteers and customer service staff are always ready to help, in person or by phone and text. This is just a glimpse of how we’re working to make PDX more accessible and inclusive. 🎧 Episode Teaser — Coming Soon with Vince Granato from the Port of Portland In March, we visited the Portland International Airport (PDX) during the International Mass Timber Conference. (amazing conference organised by Arnie Didier, Clifford (Craig) Rawlings, Paul Toussaint and others) The roof structure is the largest timber roof structure ever built for an airport, part of a $2.15 billion transformation of Oregon’s biggest public infrastructure project to date. We invited Vince Granato, Chief Projects Officer at the Port of Portland, to tell the full story in the High Point podcast (Atelier Crescendo's podcast). — and he said yes without hesitation! In this upcoming episode, we talk about: 🌲 Why timber? How a sustainable, regional supply chain — including tribal forests — made it possible 🏗️ Building a 9-acre modular timber roof off-site and installing it above an active terminal 🌀 Designing for seismic resilience, long-term flexibility, and future-proofing air travel 🧭 And how pride, local identity, and “doing things differently” are embedded in every design decision 🎙️ It’s an honest, inspiring conversation about innovation at scale — and what it means to design infrastructure with purpose. 🔜 Stay tuned — Episode 45 drops soon.
