Pixelle Specialty Solutions has issued an updated WARN notice regarding the planned closure of its Chillicothe, Ohio facility. The final day of mill operation is now expected to be August 10, 2025. While the shutdown had previously been paused to explore strategic alternatives for the mill, recent staffing departures and recent customer demand has declined such that a further delay is no longer possible. Pixelle continues to support impacted employees through transition resources and is working closely with JobsOhio and public sector partners to explore long-term redevelopment opportunities for the site. This change does not affect operations at our other locations. Pixelle remains focused on delivering high-quality specialty paper solutions across the markets we serve.

After a very careful and thorough evaluation and tremendous investment in the facility, we have made the difficult decision to close our mill in Chillicothe, Ohio. This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate the dedication of our employees and the support of our customers, suppliers, and the entire mill family. We understand this will impact the Chillicothe community, and our team is focused on providing necessary support to impacted employees. A note from our president and CEO, Ross Bushnell: “We value our Chillicothe team and the contributions they have made to Pixelle. Our priority now is to support our employees with care and transparency throughout this transition. We are committed to providing the resources and assistance they need while also ensuring no disruptions to our customers and seamless delivery of superior specialty paper solutions throughout this process.” Today’s news does not impact operations at our other sites. Our teams are in communication with customers, and we are committed to delivering high-quality solutions while working through this transition.

Pixelle has entered into a definitive agreement to sell the Stevens Point, Wisconsin facility to Ahlstrom Oyj (“Ahlstrom”), a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials. Women in Manufacturing Spotlight: Maddy Logan Meet Maddy Logan, Assistant Superintendent for PM 7 and 8 at Pixelle Specialty Solutions. Inspired by her female mentorship in Maine, she was motivated to pursue a career in a male-dominated field. Now, she tracks machine performance and ensures quality paper production, enjoying the daily challenges and problem-solving. Her Advice for Other Women in the Industry – “The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you really have to be confident in yourself, stand up for yourself, and don’t be afraid to go outside the mold. It’s also very important to listen to other people and take their opinions into account. Seeing all sides of a situation is very important.” Her Thoughts on the Future of the Industry – “The push away from plastics is something I’ve been interested in. We’ve done exciting trials towards making products out of paper that are typically made out of plastic. Women in Manufacturing Spotlight: Dyan Gouff Meet Dyan Gouff, Development Specialist at Pixelle Specialty Solutions. Her Wisconsin background and love for science and math have led her to a role involving a wide range of specialty paper products including medical, food packaging, and colored papers. Her Advice for Other Women in the Industry – “Have an open mind, don’t be afraid to fail because you will fail, and you should learn from those failures. Your greatest successes can come from your failures.” Her Thoughts on the Future of the Industry – “The paper industry is rapidly changing. Sustainability is a big component now, trying to make paper perform like plastic, but still being able to decompose and biodegrade. There’s a lot of cool innovations coming out and a lot more cooperation amongst all the different steps in the manufacturing process.” Fun Fact About Dyan – "I have a very good Irish Cream Cheesecake recipe that I almost sold to a local franchise for them to put on their dessert menu."
