AI-Powered PNT for GPS-Denied Environments
About us
Pendulum is an AI company that builds software-defined, hardware-agnostic solutions for geolocation. Navigate – their alternative positioning, navigation, and timing (alt-PNT) technology – puts assets and personnel on the map where conventional solutions fail. It runs entirely on device and requires no new hardware, connectivity, or access to GPS. Built to protect the warfighter, Pendulum’s AI has been tested in the most extreme environments on Earth, and deployed across the most critical.

“As you continue to move, we’ll continue to track you with no user input required.” CTO Stephen Guerrera, PhD covers how our alternative PNT technology keeps users on the map where GPS jamming dominates. At our land navigation course in #Virginia, Pendulum Navigate users were able to successfully make their way between control points without GPS. That's because Navigate provides continuous geolocation where traditional means of navigation fail. Watch the full video: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/gZAaBacp #EW #GPS #TAK #ATAK #PNT

Pendulum Navigate in action. Watch the first public demonstration of our software-defined geolocation solution for GPS-denied environments. Drew Arenth and Stephen Guerrera, PhD discuss how existing alt-PNT solutions leave a critical divide in how we protect consumer-grade (COTS) devices in the field. Integrated within #TAK – Navigate ensures reliable geolocation for the dismounted user in just a few clicks. A special thanks to Benjamin Fels, Mesay Bejiga, and Eva Hirsch for demoing the solution, alongside our on-site collaborators Ava Genho and CineSalon. Vision-based navigation will transform how drones operate in GPS-degraded and denied settings. However, it is not without limitations. External sensitivities, drift, and power draw all add risk in contested environments. The economics of the battlefield are changing. Today, small FPV drones can spot and even engage targets that would once have required larger UAVs or fixed-wing aircraft. The trade-off? They remain uniquely vulnerable to #GPS jammers and spoofers. #Pendulum is equipping them with robust and resilient #PNT for GPS-degraded and denied environments. Consumer-grade phones, watches, and drones are at the forefront of tactical operations. Equip them for where electronic warfare dominates. Pendulum Navigate provides always-on, always-accurate geolocation to the dismounted user. #PNT they can trust, on the devices they trust the most. Visual reference points connect navigator and map. Boundaries, elevation changes, and landmarks all assure position in the field. But what happens when those cues disappear? Over 80% of Earth’s surface is made up of oceans, seas, or deserts – environments with few or no distinguishing features. It's a challenge that has plagued everyone from explorers to armed forces for centuries – and today visual-based navigation systems. Even when landmarks exist, they aren’t guaranteed: fog, smoke, low light, or dust can easily obscure them. Without reliable references, it’s impossible to fully close the loop between predicted and actual location – and over time and distance error compounds. At Pendulum Systems, we’ve spent years building another way. Find out more about our approach: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/esuptukn #PNT #Navigation #TAK #ATAK #GPS

UAVs have reshaped the face of war – but electronic warfare is reshaping drone tech in turn. In the first few months of the Russia–Ukraine war, 90% of UAF drones were grounded through EW. What has played out since is a game of cat-and-mouse between pilot and adversary. With every step taken to make drones more resilient to GPS interference, methods of jamming and spoofing become more effective at disabling the hardware. Without assured positioning, navigation, and timing (#PNT), most Class 1-3 UAVs are incapable of even taking off, let alone completing mission-critical operations. The arsenal becomes ‘lawn darts’ Drones have cameras; ML models can compare vision data to satellite imagery. This computer vision approach is proving critical in the race to better equip drones for GPS-denied and degraded environments. But, it's not without its limitations: cameras need to be able to see the ground for vision-based navigation to work. Low light, fog, smoke and occlusion prevent that, so the models have little to analyze. Most of the earth's surface – oceans, deserts, the Arctic – also contain no land features for vision-based models to recognize. There’s an alternative. #ML-based approaches that combine geospatial data with inertial sensor outputs will transform how we advance drone resilience in environments increasingly subject to #GPS interference. We're building it. - Benjamin Fels, CEO, Pendulum Systems Find out how: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/esuptukn
