Principal Percussionist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Matthew Howard is performing with the same orchestra he grew up watching. A former New World Symphony Fellow under Michael Tilson Thomas, he has also appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Boston Ballet, and he has been a member of the Verbier Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, and National Repertory Orchestra. From jazz vibraphone to timpani and hand percussion, Matthew’s artistry reflects years of training with world-class mentors and a passion for sharing the full spectrum of percussion with audiences everywhere. --- Matthew Howard, percusionista principal de la Filarmónica de Los Ángeles, se presenta hoy con la misma orquesta que lo inspiró de niño. Wolfe – Fountain of Youth, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas and performed by the New World Symphony Fellows in 2019. Titled as a tribute to the young Fellows of the NWS, this one-movement piece is bursting with sass, rhythm, and energy. Ranking at number 4 in NWS’s Top 15 of the 2024–25 Season Denève: Symphonie Fantastique featured cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason in a fiery, soulful NWS debut with Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, earning a standing ovation. Horn player Corbin Castro and violinist Christopher Robinson—both New World Symphony alumni—are redefining what it means to be artists and educators in today’s world. As co-founders of VIA Academy (Virtual Inclusion Artists Academy), they are breaking barriers in music education, offering high-quality training to young musicians from remote and underrepresented communities. Since its founding, VIA has reached dozens of students across America, reflecting the spirit of innovation and access nurtured at the New World Symphony. Beyond VIA, Corbin has performed at the Verbier Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, and Classical Tahoe. Christopher has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Nashville Symphony.
