The New York State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) plays a vital role in maintaining the health of our ocean, which supports the state’s multi-billion dollar marine economy and provides recreation opportunities for New Yorkers and visitors. Through its Ocean and Great Lakes Program, the EPF has provided funding to rehabilitate endangered sea turtles like Elton, who returned to the wild yesterday. It is imperative we protect the New York State Environmental Protection Fund to ensure continued support for programs that protect and restore our ocean and wildlife. The Earth's Best Defense
About us
NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Worth Magazine has named NRDC one of America's 100 best charities, and the Wise Giving Alliance of the Better Business Bureau reports that NRDC meets its highest standards for accountability and use of donor funds. NRDC was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement. NRDC lawyers helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws. Today, our staff of more than 300 lawyers, scientists and policy experts -- a MacArthur "genius" award-winner among them -- work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beijing. The New York Times calls us "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups." The National Journal says we're "A credible and forceful advocate for stringent environmental protection." With the support of our members and online activists, NRDC works to solve the most pressing environmental issues we face today: curbing global warming, getting toxic chemicals out of the environment, moving America beyond oil, reviving our oceans, saving wildlife and wild places, and helping China go green.

The EPA is planning to withdraw $7 billion in rooftop solar grants awarded through the Inflation Reduction Act—a move that puts clean, affordable energy out of reach for nearly one million low-income households. These grants are not just numbers on a budget—they’re a lifeline. They help families lower energy bills, reduce climate pollution, and invest in local clean energy jobs. Rolling them back is not just short-sighted. It’s unjust. And it undermines the very communities the climate crisis hits first and worst. We’ll keep fighting for a clean energy future that works for everyone. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/etK9Nja6

India’s transition to electric mobility isn’t just about getting more EVs on the road—it’s about what powers them, and what happens when that power runs out. A proposal to create a unique ID system for EV batteries could help track performance, reduce costs, and enable a second-life battery market. By improving traceability and building consumer trust, it has the potential to accelerate widespread EV adoption while supporting circular economy goals.

People from all over the country came together to share powerful stories of broken promises, highlighting the urgent need to return control of America’s future to local communities. They talked about the progress made possible by federal programs—real opportunities for a better tomorrow—and what could be lost if people don’t speak out. We’ll keep raising their voices to ensure communities lead the way forward.

Power plants are already responsible for almost one-third of U.S. carbon emissions. Now, the Trump administration is trying to repeal safeguards on carbon emissions and mercury, arsenic, and lead pollution, which can cause neurological damage and respiratory illness. This would put our planet and communities at risk. The EPA is seeking feedback on its disastrous plans, and we need to say what we think. Sign the petition and tell the EPA to hold polluters accountable: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/e2MbtEB8

The J.H. Campbell coal plant is out of date, expensive, and one of the biggest polluters in Michigan. The plant’s owner planned to shut it down earlier this year and had already lined up cleaner replacement power sources, including wind and solar power. A week before it was set to close, the Trump administration illegally used emergency powers to force it to continue operating and risk the health of nearby communities. Alone, Campbell is responsible for an estimated 44 early deaths and 455 asthma attacks every single year. It’s long past time to shut it down. We’re suing Trump’s Department of Energy to stop this abuse of power and protect public health.

A new EPA plan would let polluters spew as much greenhouse gas as they want, but it goes against both science and the law. Back in 2009, the EPA concluded that greenhouse gases, and the climate change they power, threaten public health. It was the overwhelming scientific consensus at the time—and it still is. But climate deniers in the White House and the EPA are trying to overturn that decision, called the “endangerment finding.” This has served as the legal foundation for safeguards that cut greenhouse gas pollution from oil and gas drilling, cars and trucks, power plants, and more. Repealing the endangerment finding flies in the face of science and would make it harder to combat the climate crisis. EPA, we won’t stop fighting for the planet. If we need to, we’ll see you in court.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) reposted this
The students of Vanuatu dared to dream big and challenge the status quo, and it paid off with what could end up being one of the most important milestones in the global climate fight. I am thrilled at the landmark International Court of Justice (ICJ) decision to validate some of the most ambitious climate priorities championed by vulnerable states over the last 50 years. This is a game changer and is sure to influence future climate policy decisions, legal action, and discussions globally. There is a lot to digest from the announcements, but I’d like to flag 3 rulings that make this moment particularly exciting and powerful for climate and socio-economic justice and for vulnerable communities and nations: ✅ All countries have an obligation to address climate change under international and customary laws, beyond their commitments under the Paris Agreement. ✅ It provides legal leverage to seek reparations from major emitters, including from the fossil fuel industry. ✅ Small islands will keep their statehood if their land disappears due to sea level rise – as illustrated by the Rising Nation Initiative, Global Centre for Climate Mobility, thus boosting their efforts to preserve their sovereignty, rights, and cultural heritage with dignity. This was an improbable outcome when (back in philanthropy) a few years ago, some of us decided to bet on taking such courageous action. It has been a tough ride with many lessons to learn from. I want to extend my massive congratulations to the countless individuals, nations, youth, and partners around the world, working tirelessly to ensure we have a healthier, safer, more just environment for generations to come. The cost of inaction is too high to ignore. It’s time to press on the accelerator for resilient and green action! https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/eWw8nbUS
