About us
Since 1963, Methodist Healthcare has continuously evolved to meet the growing needs of the greater San Antonio community. Our commitment has never wavered in consistently improving the health and wellness of our community by living our mission of "Serving Humanity to Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare accessible to all." Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., South Texas’s largest non-public funding source of community healthcare for uninsured patients, and HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. This creates a unique partnership that ensures Methodist Healthcare Ministries continues to benefit the community by providing quality care to all and charitable care when needed. Methodist Healthcare invested $818 million in charity and indigent care to the community in 2022 alone. With 30 facilities, including 10 hospitals and 10 freestanding emergency departments, the Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 13,000 employees, making the system the second-largest private employer in San Antonio. With more than 3,500 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the largest array of medical services in the region, including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology, and women’s services. Two Methodist Healthcare hospitals were recognized for their exceptional quality of care in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings. Methodist Hospital is No. 1 in San Antonio for the second consecutive year and tied for No. 9 in Texas. Methodist Hospital Stone Oak follows closely, securing the No. 3 spot in San Antonio. The rankings are based on a comprehensive analysis of more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. The evaluation considered objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and the level of nursing care. Only 13% of the hospitals evaluated earned a Best Hospitals designation, highlighting the outstanding performance of Methodist Healthcare. As part of the Methodist Hospital awards process, data was collected from multiple Methodist Healthcare System hospitals, including Methodist Children’s Hospital, Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, Methodist Hospital Northeast, Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant, and Methodist Hospital Texsan. Congratulations to our staff at both hospitals for this remarkable achievement! Your unwavering commitment to patient care makes a significant difference in the lives of those you serve. https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/45fO2cp #SAHealth #HealthcareExcellence

Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak is proud to highlight a special moment in honor of National Hire a Veteran Day. In May, the hospital welcomed Warren Carter, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and new director of emergency services, with a white coat ceremony and a heartfelt send-off into the civilian life. Surrounded by staff and his loved ones, the team honored his years of military service and celebrated his transition into healthcare leadership, officially retiring him from the Air Force during the event. This opportunity was made possible through the SkillBridge program, which partners with organizations like HCA Healthcare to help service members gain civilian work experience during their last 180 days of active duty. It’s a powerful bridge between military service and a new career in healthcare. “It’s been a true joy and honor continuing to serve others, just in a different uniform," Carter said. “Joining this organization and working with such an incredible team has been the perfect next chapter for me and my family.”

We also made history this year with the launch of our new Podiatry Residency Program, led by Thomas Zgonis, DPM, as we welcomed our first resident to the program.
