Kerry, RDMS, RDCS - Diagnostic Medical Sonographer III - Ultrasound, MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Kerry has been a part of the MaineHealth care team for five years! “I was working at a hospital in New York when my brother moved to Maine in 2019. My husband and I started taking trips up to visit, and we quickly fell in love with the state. We had always talked about the idea of relocating. One day, I happened to be browsing Indeed and came across a job posting at Maine Medical Center. On a whim, I sent my resume- and just seven weeks later, I started my new role. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made.” “What I enjoy most about my role is the meaningful connections I get to make with patients every day”, said Kerry. “It's incredibly rewarding to use my skills to help provide answers, comfort, and clarity during moments that can feel uncertain or overwhelming.” Kerry added, “I love being part of a team that values collaboration, continuing education, and high-quality patient care. We are pleased to share a recently published study in Data in Brief co-authored by members of our MaineHealth team. The publication details a de-identified dataset of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest resuscitation episodes, curated from real-time clinical systems. This open-access resource is intended to support equity in resuscitation research by making high-quality clinical data more broadly available to investigators. We recognize the MaineHealth team members involved in this work, Michael J. Tiba, MS, David Seder, MD, and William E. Baker, MD, MPH. Their collaboration with researchers from Yale University and other institutions reflects a shared commitment to advancing research and improving patient outcomes. "The way that cancer patients face their disease and each one individually chooses their path navigating it, is so inspirational. And it makes me want to support them in any way that I can, and it also inspires me to challenge myself and do hard things, too." Laura Withers, MD, along with fellow MaineHealth surgeons Liz Turner, MD and Kathreen Lee, MD, spoke to WMTW-TV about why they chose to participate in the Tri for a Cure.

July is Disability Pride Month. Disability Pride Month was created to celebrate and accept each person's uniqueness and to recognize the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990. It is also intended to bring awareness to and confront ableism, which is discrimination against people with physical or mental disabilities. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have some type of disability. People with disabilities are the largest minority group in the U.S. You can participate in Disability Pride Month by sharing your story or amplifying others’ voices, attending an event or being an advocate for equitable opportunities.

Maine Hospital Association and hospital leaders across the state say proposed Medicaid cuts in the latest GOP budget proposal would spell disaster for hospitals and patients, especially those in rural areas, who are more reliant on Medicaid and Medicare. Katie Fullam Harris, chief government affairs officer for MaineHealth, the state’s largest health care system that includes Maine Medical Center and seven rural hospitals, said the bill pending in Congress would push the state’s hospitals over the brink. “If this passes, you are going to be inflicting serious pain on providers who serve patients, and the patients themselves,” said Harris, who described hospitals as being at a financial “tipping point.” This article from the Portland Press Herald provides more details on the bill and investigates the potential impact to individual Mainers: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.pbit.ly/4lknWeq
