Preventing child abuse, preserving the family, and treating children who have been abused and neglected.

About us

KID is a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, the preservation of the family, and the treatment of abused and neglected children. Founded in 1979, KID started as a shelter for abused and neglected children. During its 43 operational years, KID has grown to include two campuses in Broward County, and a foster care office in Palm Beach County. In 2019, KID acquired Family Central, Inc. (FCI) which provides comprehensive family strengthening, early learning, a child care food program, and educational training services in South Florida. KID offers a well-integrated system of care staffed with clinical professionals who tenaciously strive to encourage, educate, empower, and equip children and families with the proper tools to ensure a safe and strong community. By advancing critical and clinical care to at-risk children and families in need, KID is known as the premier provider of child and family services in South Florida and now serves more than 20,000 children and families annually. KID employees enrich the South Florida community through foster care recruitment/training/support, kinship support, early childhood education/preschool, aftercare/summer camp, adoption support, reunification services, family strengthening, maternal health, a family counseling center, and pediatric dental services in partnership with Nova Southeastern University.

We absolutely love to see the astounded expressions on the faces of folks who visit our main campus at Kids In Distress for the first time. Our continuum is what sets our organization apart from many others, as our three pillars of Family Strengthening and Support, Early Childhood Education and Foster and Adoptive Services truly changes lives every single day and for many, a lifetime. Today we had the amazing opportunity to host three incredible leaders from Florida Blue! Thank you Fiorella Smyth , Genevieve Medina and Cindy Mason for spending so much meaningful time with Jessy and I today. We so appreciate you and your team’s amazing support of the non-profit community! #imagine #invest #improve. Kids In Distress (KID) Family Central, Inc.

  • Today at KPP Preschool, love took center stage. Our “Lady I Love” celebration was filled with dancing, laughter, art, and sweet moments shared between our little ones and the incredible women who care for them—moms, grandmas, aunties, foster moms, adoptive moms, and more. As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, we hold space for every kind of love. Whether you’re celebrating your birth mom, a caregiver, a mentor, or a woman who simply showed up when it mattered most—we see you. And for those holding grief or longing this weekend, we honor you too. May we all find a moment to celebrate the lady we love—and the love that continues to shape us. #LadyILove #MothersDay2025 #EveryKindOfLove #CelebrateMothers #LoveThatShapesUs
