Board Spotlight: A Conversation with HSC Board Member, Winnye Wilks Now in her second term, Winnye Wilks brings a strong commitment to both people and pets. She has served on multiple event committees and remains deeply involved in community-focused initiatives. Winnye’s leadership and passion have played an important role in HSC’s recent milestones—including the opening of our Animal Resource Center. In the Q&A below, she shares her thoughts on what sets HSC apart, the impact of our youth programs, and her excitement for what’s ahead. What do you think sets HSC apart in its mission and work? "The multi-faceted approach they take to exposing the community to programs and activities within the HSC." Can you share a memorable moment or achievement during your time on the board? "The opening of our new facility has been the greatest milestone during my tenure with the board and possibly the HSC’s most noteworthy achievement." What’s something about HSC that you think more people should know? "The community should know more about the HSC’s focus on children and the summer program they have developed to educate children and socialize them around pets." What are you most excited to see HSC achieve in the next 5 years? "I am excited for HSC to become a world class facility and operation, one that has national notoriety and sets the standard for best practices in animal care and outreach." This week we're highlighting our wonderful volunteer, Jean Kochick! 1. How long have you been an HSC volunteer and what made you choose our organization? I have been a volunteer for about 1 1/2 years. Started in February of 2024. I chose HSC because of my passion for animals. I value HSC as an organization and I want to lend a hand in support of the HSC mission. 2. Do you have a memorable volunteer moment? Whenever I volunteer, I take note of the animals up for adoption and I like to watch in the weekly update to see that they have been adopted. A memorable moment was when a cat named Parker was adopted after being passed by for a while. I was so happy. She was a beautiful cat but she was older and I believe she had some health issues. 3. Do you have advice for new volunteers? My advice for new volunteers is to find the volunteer opportunities that best suit you and plan in advance and sign up as your schedule permits.
