“I jump in for them.” 🩵 Jaime Chila, an Emergency Department Nurse at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, returned for another year of Swim Across the Sound – swimming for every patient, friend, and loved one touched by cancer. From chilly waters to sunny skies, Jaime’s swim was fueled by purpose, resilience, and hope. 🌊☀️

Most women recover from childbirth without issues, but serious complications can happen even up to a year later. That's why we knew how important it was to bring this initiative to CT. New mothers are given an orange wristband when they leave the hospital. It lets emergency teams know they’ve recently given birth, helping ensure quicker, safer care if something doesn’t feel right. But support doesn’t stop at the hospital doors. As a community, we can all play a role by checking in, offering help, and staying aware of the signs that something might be wrong. A simple act of kindness or a listening ear can make a big difference in a new parent’s journey. Together, we can end maternal mortality and make life for new moms a little easier. ❤️

Last Saturday, our annual Swim Across the Sound Marathon raised more than $720,000 to support cancer patients and their families! From honoring loved ones lost to cancer, to supporting survivors and patients still fighting – we asked some of our swimmers why they brave the 15.5-mile trek from Long Island to Bridgeport. Their reasons are personal and profound. 🩵

This #NationalBreastfeedingMonth, we’re proud to celebrate the lifelong impact of breastfeeding and the incredible support systems that make it possible. Breastfeeding supports cognitive development, reduces healthcare costs, and empowers families. When we provide skilled counseling, supportive environments, and access to accurate information, we’re investing in the future of our communities. We also honor our lactating colleagues by offering safe, private, and comfortable spaces for milk expression during the workday, because sustaining breastfeeding means supporting our workforce, too.

I am continuously inspired and in awe of the most amazing people within Hartford HealthCare. Today’s Swim Across the Sound is a powerful testament to our colleagues and community — whose extraordinary efforts made both the 15.5-mile swim and the complex planning behind it possible. Our colleagues at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, joined by members of our community and teams from across Hartford HealthCare, proudly continued this 38-year tradition to support cancer patients and their families. With 39 swim teams, seven solo swimmers, and more than 400 volunteers, this year’s event is much more than a fundraiser. It is a powerful celebration of life, a testament to the strength of our community, and a reflection of our values in action. To everyone who swam, volunteered, or supported this extraordinary event — thank you! I am immensely grateful for your energetic commitment and compassion. You embody what it means to be the best at getting better.

Hartford Healthcare’s Neighborhood Health Team has teamed up with “Power in a Shower” to offer a unique mobile shower service aimed at providing clean, safe shower access to underserved communities. The service debuted today at Hands On Hartford, alongside the Neighborhood Health clinics on-site. Access to clean water and proper hygiene is a critical need for underserved populations, and hand hygiene is an essential component of overall health. This partnership not only addresses hygiene but also contributes to improved healthcare outcomes for individuals facing adversity. Each participant will receive fresh towels, hygiene products, and undergarments. ❤️
