Congratulations to our CEO Kwame Owusu-Kesse for being featured in the LinkedIn News #Catalyst series — spotlighting leaders who are driving meaningful change! In this feature, Mr. Owusu-Kesse shared his inspiring journey to becoming CEO of Harlem Children’s Zone and reflected on what it means to lead with purpose — highlighting the transformative impact of HCZ in breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty in Central Harlem and in communities like ours across the country. We’re proud of your leadership and grateful to the Catalyst team for showcasing your commitment to our scholars, families, and communities.
What’s holding you back from pursuing your passion? Kwame Owusu-Kesse shares with #Catalyst how he discovered his purpose by choosing passion over external pressures. Kwame’s journey started in a tight-knit community where an unlikely bingo event opened doors to a scholarship and transformative mentoring. At Harvard, he faced the tension between financial security and a desire to merge business with public service. After grinding through Wall Street, an unexpected call from Geoffrey Canada prompted him to align his career with his calling. As CEO of Harlem Children's Zone — a nationally acclaimed, anti-poverty organization that has pioneered the field of comprehensive, place-based services — Kwame is in a position to empower over 20,000 people. “Everything changed for me when I released myself from external pressures and leaned into my passion and purpose,” said Kwame, one of TIME’s next 100 most influential people in the world.
