  • At General Catalyst, seed is where we put our deepest conviction to work. Our team has backed companies like Anduril Industries, Applied Intuition, Helsing, Legora, Mercor, Stripe, and Zepto from the first days, long before their ideas looked obvious. To us, the best seed companies are hidden truths waiting to be activated. The best founders see the future and aren't afraid to build it. And at GC, we’re committed to this journey. Here’s what GC Seed means in practice: Shaping the Ambiguity – We thrive in the ambiguity of the early innings when your product is still a sketch on a whiteboard, and we stay with you through every pivot, milestone, and late-night “messy middle” moment. Because each of us has been there ourselves. The GC Famiglia – A treasure trove of 800+ relationships with world leading Fortune 500 CEOs, founders, and operators who open doors, pressure-test go-to-market plans, and share hard-won wisdom when the road feels lonely. We call it Famiglia because that's how it's lived: over pizza and drinks. Uncommon Talent – Ask any founder what keeps them up at night in the earliest days and most will give the same answer: finding the best technical talent. At GC, we've built a specialized talent team that knows how to identify and connect the kind of engineers who don't just write code, but who redefine what’s possible. Capital that Keeps Pace – We want to co-conspire with you on what will create meaningful capital leverage for your business. From the first check to thoughtful follow-ons, we give you the breathing room to play offense, not just manage downside. If you’re building in a space where the problems are hard and the impact can be huge (like applied AI, dual-use technologies, frontier industrials, and more) we’d love to be your first call. More on our seed commitment from Jeannette, Neeraj, and Yuri in the comments. #GCSeed #FounderFirst

Managing Director and Head of Europe at General Catalyst / Founding Partner of La Famiglia VC

Founding isn’t a straight line. The magic happens in the messy middle, where everything could tilt either way, and every choice counts. This uncertainty is part of the fabric of reality, so much of founding is about embracing the unknown and the potential that lies in every fork in the road. There’s also freedom in letting go of rigid ideas. Sometimes, “our expectations limit us more than the world itself“, as the Nobel prize winner Anton Zeilinger would put it. Like a photon at a half-silvered mirror, we can’t always predict which path will open, but we do know that randomness and openness are built into the process.   If science shows us anything, it’s that there are no fixed blueprints: freedom and curiosity go hand in hand, and sometimes the best answers come when we allow things to unfold naturally.   At General Catalyst Seed, we stand by founders in the messy middle as we are founders by ourselves. Trusting in their vision, fostering bold ideas, and sharing the freedom to adapt as new possibilities emerge. Relationships thrive not on control, but on a shared willingness to let things unfold – knowing that true breakthroughs and lasting value are often born from embracing randomness, nurturing trust, and navigating the journey together.   I’m deeply grateful to work alongside partners who understand this jazz-like dance of founders’ journeys:   Neeraj Arora built Venture Highway into one of India’s most respected seed firms, long before the ecosystem had the scale it has today. Now he helps our GC founders access cross-border talent, navigate global markets, and stay anchored in what matters most.   Yuri Sagalov is a seasoned expert who’s lived every phase of the startup journey, from technical founder to backing legendary teams at Y Combinator and Wayfinder.   If you’re building through uncertainty or in the thick of it and want to talk, I’d love to hear what you’re working on. We’re here for the long haul. Torsten Reil, Arthur Mensch, Qasar Younis, your paths, like those of so many others, keep reminding us what this journey can become. 👉 Find more on GC Seed in the comments. #GCSeed #FounderFirst

  • The myth that hardware is too complex for software-style innovation is crumbling. The reality? Software for hardware, built collaboratively by engineers and AI-native developers, can deliver a modern industrial base. An emerging generation of hardware teams is adopting the principles that transformed software over the last two decades. They're building systems that are modular from the start, designed for rapid iteration, powered by AI-native intelligence, and driven by software-first thinking while respecting real-world complexity. Companies like Chariot Defense, Nominal, PhysicsX, Re:Build Manufacturing, and Senra Systems are early examples of what's possible when excellence in physics meets fluency in Python for mission-critical applications. Modernizing our critical infrastructure with software for hardware represents a generational opportunity to rebuild our industrial base from the very foundation. From the factory floor to the ocean's surface, we're backing founders who are rewriting the source code for industrial progress. The future is software-defined hardware solving the world's most pressing physical challenges. Explore more by Paul and Alexa in the comments. #SoftwareforHardware #Resilience #Transformation

  • We believe the next frontier in enterprise data will be about applied AI in action, not more tools, dashboards, and manual oversight. That's why we're leading Pantomath's $30M Series B round as they enable data teams to focus less on debugging and more on data-driven decision making. Many Fortune 500 companies struggle to maintain clean, reliable customer data across increasingly complex technology stacks. When they do manage it, they rely on a patchwork of tools and large teams of outsourced data engineers that create friction and require constant manual intervention. Pantomath is building one of the first AI agents designed specifically to automatically maintain complex enterprise data pipelines at scale, and to do so without human oversight. Our conviction in Pantomath reflects our commitment to backing founders who build for enterprise transformation, bridging breakthrough applied AI technologies with real-world operational constraints. We partner with founders like Shashank, Somesh, and Narayana who see potential where others see only complexity. Welcome to the GC Famiglia! The Transformation Principles, my new book co-authored with Kevin Maney, will be available in the US on September 23. I am keen to share this book with all of you as a response to the moment we’re in – an era defined by compounding megatrends: 🔹The acceleration of the digital transformation that’s unfolded over the past 30 years, reorganizing every aspect of society. With AI, this trend is entering a new phase of speed and scope. 🔹Workforce transformation driven by this acceleration of AI, which will redefine the nature of work and human purpose. The impact on workforce will also affect whole nations and realign economic relationships as offshoring dynamics, education access, and pathways to higher-value work evolve. 🔹Sweeping geopolitical shifts across critical industries as nations race to build resilience in healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and defense The Transformation Principles is a blueprint for navigating these shifts with ambition, responsibility, and urgency. These megatrends pose a unique opportunity for our innovation ecosystem to maximize profit and purpose, one that requires a new playbook that re-architects capitalism to be more inclusive, and sustainable. The book outlines nine principles that have guided my work in building enduring companies to transform critical industries during my 20+ years at General Catalyst, learning from founders and from my own journey at GC transforming healthcare and venture capital itself. I share stories behind generational companies, how my own upbringing and education shaped me, and plenty of missteps along the way. Key principles include understanding the critical importance of a company’s soul, navigating the ambiguity of building a new future, embracing radical collaboration, and leading with generosity and a beginner’s mind. Whether you’re a founder, investor, business leader, or young professional navigating this era of technological and geopolitical change, I hope this book is useful to you, or at least gives you new paradigms to consider around building companies designed not just for exit, but for long-term value creation. I want to also thank all those who helped contribute and shape the thinking in this book. I am particularly grateful for what’s now been a decade-long creative partnership with Kevin Maney. This is our fourth book together, and perhaps the most personal for me. It required immense patience on his part as I navigated a path of self-discovery in order to write it.  Learn more about The Transformation Principles here: https://xmrrwallet.com/cmx.plnkd.in/g8J-fk_8, and stay tuned for more. #TheTransformationPrinciples

  • Pop Quiz: What does healthcare transformation look like? (Hint: It's health assurance: proactive, affordable, and accessible healthcare for all, not disjointed solutions or incremental improvements.) In this Pop Quiz episode, hosted by GC's Mark Crane, Holly Maloney, GC's Managing Director of Healthcare, breaks down one of healthcare's biggest mindset shifts from scarcity to abundance. We see the future of healthcare unfolding: a world where your zip code doesn't determine your health outcomes. Where AI-powered diagnostics catch diseases before symptoms appear. Where a farmer in rural Montana gets the same specialist care as someone in Manhattan. We're backing the platforms that we think make this possible: 1. Early detection systems that reach every community (Cityblock Health) 2. Technology that democratizes specialist expertise (Dandy, Maven Clinic) 3. Preventive care models that replace reactive treatment (Sprinter Health) 4. Infrastructure that creates abundance where scarcity once ruled (Commure, Hippocratic AI, Transcarent) This is what we believe healthcare transformation looks like when we embrace systems-level thinking. What do you think the future of healthcare should prioritize? #HealthAssurance #AppliedAI #Transformation

For decades, globalization meant pushing work offshore from call centers to manufacturing facilities to back office support. It was cost effective and efficient for companies operating across time zones and markets. But AI is fundamentally rewiring that model. We’re not just talking about automation anymore. We’re seeing a structural shift: onshoring productivity. Agentic AI is compressing workflows, removing intermediaries, and enabling small onshore teams - or even single individuals - to generate the kind of output that once required entire organizations. So while there’s a massive opportunity for business efficiency, while bolstering domestic jobs and resilient supply chains, there is also the reality that many jobs will be done end to end by AI agents. We have to be honest with ourselves: What kind of work are we actually creating next? How do we ensure we reskill the workforce to be prepared for this new kind of work? These are the questions we must engage with early, openly, and with discipline. It’s our responsibility as investors, builders, and stewards of the next economy. That’s where my head is. Curious where others are seeing signal. cc General Catalyst

  • As demand for healthcare overwhelms available clinical talent, new infrastructure that can deliver clinical intelligence at scale is becoming essential. That's why we are doubling down on our partnership with Aidoc by co-leading their $150M round. We believe the future of health assurance will be built by clinical intelligence at scale, delivering proactive, affordable, and accessible healthcare for all. Aidoc is poised to help lead this transformation. Since our initial investment in 2021, founders Elad, Michael, and Guy have embodied the ambition, tenacity, and urgency required to elevate the standard of care. Now one of the most widely deployed clinical intelligence platforms in the United States, Aidoc is trusted by over 150 health systems and leverages our joint partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to train multimodal clinical foundation models, like CARE. The CARE family of models has the potential to redefine how intelligent clinical applications are designed, deployed, and distributed across the healthcare ecosystem. We are energized to help catalyze their mission as they seek to unlock unprecedented scale for clinical intelligence and co-engineer a healthcare system that can serve everyone. We’re proud to have Aidoc in the GC Famiglia. Explore why we’re doubling down by Chris and Alexandre in the comments.
